After a brief mental struggle, Evadne made a decision - saying nothing.
Thaddeus was now consumed by guilt and regret. She did wish to see him rue his past actions towards her, but his repeated attempts to make amends, risking his life and giving everything to repay his debt to her, were more than enough.
She still wanted him to shine brightly in her life, like a star. She didn't want to add to his guilt.
This was her subtle way of loving someone.
"Evadne? Are you really okay?" Thaddeus noticed her pale complexion and felt a tightness in his chest. His warm hand gently squeezed her shoulder.
"I'm fine."
She lifted her face and beamed at him, "What could possibly be wrong with me? I grazed my finger climbing a tree when I was a kid. It's no big deal, doesn't affect my daily life."
Despite her reassurances, he still couldn't help but worry. He held her pinky finger delicately and said, "You have so many brothers. How did they not take good care of you?"
"My brothers do take great care of me! But what can they do when I'm a wild kid, who doesn't like to be tamed?" Evadne pouted playfully, her coquettish charm making his heart flutter. He couldn't help but peck her inviting lips.
"From now on, you won't need them to look out for you. I'll take care of you, protect you."
She blushed instantly at his words. His breath hitched at her reaction, his charming eyes dripping with desire.
"Ah! Speaking of which!" Evadne quickly took out a small, elegant box from her coat pocket and handed it to him, "Here, a gift from Cassius."
"From your brother?" Thaddeus was taken aback.
She nodded shyly, her cheeks turning pink, "Yes, you were unconscious when he gave it to me. I thought it would be best if I give it to you once you wake up."
She was a person who valued presentation. So, she chose an elegant black velvet jewelry box to house the gift.
Thaddeus felt a pang of emotion, his throat tightening at the unexpected present. He hadn't received a gift in a long time.
Once upon a time, only Evadne remembered all those anniversaries and holidays; only she cared about him. But he was blind to his blessings back then. He had someone who loved him wholeheartedly, but he always saw her as a burden, always trying to escape from her.
"Open it," Evadne urged, leaning against him.
Thaddeus opened the box, his eyes widening at the sight of the cross pendant necklace that Cassius always wore!
"Isn't this your brother's treasured possession? He's willing to give it to me?"
"Huh? He never shows it to others. How do you know he always keeps this necklace close to him?" Evadne caught on to the crucial detail.
Thaddeus gave a bitter smile.
That time when Cassius barged into the meeting room and fought with him, the necklace had slipped out from his shirt. The handcrafted piece had caught his eye immediately, plus the unforgettable scene, which left a deep impression on him.
"It's beautiful, exquisite. I really like it."
"It's not expensive, but it means a lot to him. Giving it to you is his way of accepting you," Evadne looked at him, her eyes sparkling, and she could tell that he truly loved it.
After all the twists and turns, she felt fortunate that the man she loved was still by her side.
What made her even happier was that Thaddeus had managed to change her brothers' opinion of him. She once thought her brothers would never forgive him, but thankfully, things were moving in the right direction.
Her only concern now was Emeric. Emeric was a loving father, but he was also a hard man to win over, especially for someone who was already on his bad side like Thaddeus. But that's okay. They would take it slow.
As long as their hearts were in sync, no one could stop them from being together.
Evadne put the necklace around Thaddeus' neck, her slender, graceful hand unintentionally resting on his firm chest.
His muscular physique was too tempting, just touching it sent her imagination running wild.
"How should I thank him?" Thaddeus asked, his fingers tightening around her waist.
His heart ached. When he used to hold her, he loved touching the softness of her waist. But now, he could tell how thin she had become. He could only imagine how she must have neglected eating and resting, worrying about him while he was unconscious.
"You don't need to, uh."
As she was speaking, Thaddeus abruptly pulled her into his warm embrace.
The rest of her sentence was swallowed in his passionate kiss, as he explored every inch of her mouth.
After a moment of fervent kissing, he finally pulled away, gazing at her shining lips and dazed eyes. He arched his lips upward, revealing reluctance to stop, his voice husky and seductive, "Evadne, you taste so sweet."
Evadne was dizzy from his kiss, her ears turning red. She gripped his muscular shoulders, "Don't get carried away. We're not alone on this plane."
"They're all asleep. There's nothing to worry about."
Suddenly, Thaddeus tightened his grip around her waist, his lips teasing the edge of her hot ear, his breath becoming heavier, "I'll be gentle."
Gentle? What was this man planning to do?! Evadne felt a surge of alarm, but before she could react, Thaddeus' lips claimed hers once again, slowly pressing her delicate body down.
Chasel was sound asleep, almost drooling. Suddenly, he jolted awake, as if having a nightmare, and nearly fell from his seat if not for Cassius' quick reflexes.
"Uh, how long was I asleep?" Chasel rubbed his sleepy eyes.
"About three hours."
Cassius looked at his dazed expression, his eyes squinting slightly, "Did you have a dream?"
