Emeric squinted his eagle-like eyes, exuding an aura of calm composure and dignified majesty as he firmly shook hands with William.
In every aspect, he held his own.
"About that incident at the horse racing track, I hope I haven't caused you any distress, Mr. Morris. My daughter is a bit of a wild child, lacking in worldly experience. If she's stepped out of line, I hope you'll forgive her." Emeric's smile was gracious, paired with his deep, resonant voice, revealed the unmistakable presence of an aristocrat.
The crowd was stunned.
Had they seen this right?
The scion of an old-money dynasty, heir to a royal lineage, and the helmsman of a top-tier financial empire was now extending a friendly hand to Emeric!
The Ashbournes, despite their lavish wealth, only dominated their corner of Skyrim.
But the Abernathy and Chambers Groups were the top of Elmsworth's local elite. How could William just overlook them in favor of Emeric? Truly, Emeric's influence was formidable!
At that moment, Frederic, Barry, and Jeff also made their way over, standing to one side.
These three heavy-hitters had varied expressions, each with their own cunning plans.
Frederic, in particular, seemed to have trouble maintaining his composure, his jawline taut as a blade's edge.
In the Elmsworth circle, it was common knowledge that the J Group's first domestic business venture had gone to the Abernathy Group. At a time when their relationship was in a delicate phase, William seemed cool towards Frederic, instead appearing closer to Emeric, with whom he had no business ties.
This was somewhat of a snub to Frederic, a form of invisible suppression.
"Chairman Emeric, you're too modest."
William continued to heap praise upon Evadne, sparing no compliments, "Your daughter is a rare gem – not only is she breathtakingly beautiful, but her equestrian skills rival those of professional riders. Among our nation's lady riders, she's top-tier. After the racing event, Ford couldn't stop singing Ms. Evadne's praises and hoped for another meeting. Both share a passion for horses, and I'm sure they'll find plenty to talk about."
William gestured to his son, who straightened his tie and walked over with poise.
Ford glanced at Thaddeus with a smirk that was unsettling.
Thaddeus clenched his fists, his eyes suddenly filled with icy ferocity, as rage smoldered within him!
"Damn, Thad, is that blond prick provoking you?" Jareth noticed and clenched his own fists, "We're in Elmsworth, not abroad. What's he playing at, acting all high and mighty here? Bloody foreigner!"
"He's got a thing for Evadne. I could tell the moment I first saw him," Thaddeus muttered darkly, the taste of jealousy turning his stomach sour.
"My sister-in-law is too outstanding. Which guy wouldn't be smitten by her? I'd question his orientation or his manhood if he wasn't," Jareth was relieved his own wife was a pearl in a clamshell, a beauty only he had the privilege to appreciate. Dealing with a stunning beauty like Evadne, with charms beyond compare, would break any man's heart.
"Ms. Evadne, it's a pleasure to see you again," Ford said, eyes burning with intensity as he extended his hand in a gentlemanly gesture.
Thaddeus's eyes turned red, his breath stuck in his throat.
It was a polite gesture, but he knew the intentions of this foreigner were anything but pure!
As he was about to rush forward, Jareth grabbed him just in time.
"Hey, don't do anything rash. He's just shaking hands with Evadne. You're about to go off the deep end with jealousy. That's not a good look. Reacting like this only shows you're petty or that you don't trust Evadne. You're constantly worried she'll be lured away by some rogue."
"That guy, he's up to no good," Thaddeus's eyes shimmered a dangerous red, his temple throbbing.
"I don't want his filthy hands touching my woman."
"But have you thought about the consequences if you go there now?"
Jareth, the clear-headed outsider, offered his advice to navigate the situation, "Tonight's banquet, hosted by William and his son, is meant to select business partners. Everyone wants a shot, including Chairman Emeric. If you mess things up now, will Emeric forgive you for ruining a potential deal? Evadne has mentioned her father holds grudges. Be careful not to ruin your chances at joining the elite!"
While he hesitated, Evadne smiled and said, "Mr. Ford, I'm delighted you've come to Elmsworth. To show my respect, please allow me to greet you with a gesture from your own culture."
With that, the beauty lowered her lashes and gracefully lifted the hem of her red gown, performing a poised and elegant curtsy reminiscent of a medieval court ball, captivating all the men around her, including Ford.
But only Evadne knew the truth; she simply didn't want to touch this man.
She was aware of Ford's reputation as a dapper rake, a more notorious playboy than even Jareth had been, with enough illegitimate children to form a soccer team.
Her cleanliness obsession wouldn't allow it. She found him revolting.
