Cedric's hair, once impeccably styled, was now a matted mess, dripping with the remnants of a rotten egg attack. He was still reeling from the initial shock when more "grenades" of disgust were hurled his way.
"Scumbag lawyer! A corporate lapdog, only chasing the almighty dollar! How could you defend someone like Elspeth, a cold-blooded killer? Have you no conscience?"
A squashed tomato smacked against his chest, its crimson juice splattering everywhere.
"You spineless weasel! You call yourself a lawyer, but you have no humanity. Defending the high and mighty while the common folk suffer for it! You don't deserve your title; you're a disgrace to the profession!"
Another rotten egg made a direct hit on Cedric's face, bursting open and blinding him with its foul contents.
"Damn beast! Go to hell!"
"You should die along with Elspeth!"
"Go to hell! Burn for eternity!"
Cedric's once pristine suit was now unrecognizable, and he shivered all over, his face etched with panic as he attempted to weave through the angry crowd that had him trapped.
The infuriated group, red-eyed and unyielding, formed a human barrier around him, some taking the chaos as an opportunity to land punches and kicks.
Caught between a rock and a hard place, Cedric, the "golden lawyer" renowned for defending the rich and powerful, now found himself unable to wield the weapon of law to protect his own skin.
It was both tragic and laughable.
"If you hit me again, watch out, I'll sue you."
Cedric's trembling words were cut short as a dark stone traced a parabolic arc through the air, thudding against his head with a sickening sound!
In the next second, his vision turned a bloody red, his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed to the ground with a heavy thud.
Exiting the courtroom, Jason could no longer contain his turbulent emotions. Ignoring the presence of the Ashbourne family elders, he embraced Nydia tightly.
"Nydia, I didn't do well. I've let you down," Jason said, his eyes brimming with remorse as he held her delicate form close.
"Don't be silly, Jason. You were absolutely amazing. Don't be so hard on yourself," Nydia consoled him softly, well aware of his strong sense of duty and his desire not to feel guilty.
"Myra, what do you think of Jason now?"
Suri, witnessing the young couple's affectionate embrace, asked with a knowing smile, "This time, it must be like a mother-in-law growing fonder of her son-in-law by the day, right?"
