His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 607

Hamilton's brow was furrowed, "Chad."

In the midst of their conversation, Chad’s eyes were clouded with sorrow, his smile tinged with bitterness, "I'm sorry, Grandpa Hamilton, I've let you down. I couldn't support you or dad, I've failed the Abernathy Group, and now I'm just a sickly burden.

For years, I've been haunted by one thought: how much better life would be if I hadn't been through that kidnapping. If the one who had escaped from the kidnappers had been me. If only I'd been a little more selfish, would everything be different now?"

Hamilton's heart was a tangle of emotions, but he still offered words of comfort, "Chad, don't you ever think like that. I know you've suffered a great deal over the years. That was an accident, and you're my grandson - how could I not feel your pain? Whether it's you or Thaddeus, you both are dear to my heart."

"Whom do you love more, me or Thaddeus?"

It was a soul-searching question!

Hamilton froze, caught off guard, but Chad merely offered a faint smile, "You don't have to answer, Grandpa Hamilton. I already know. It's okay, I'm not upset. I'm Thaddeus' older brother, the eldest son of the Abernathy family. It's my duty to protect him, even if it costs my life. It's only natural.

Despite missing you and Dad, and having my own regrets, I've never once regretted saving Thaddeus' life during that kidnapping."

A heavy shadow crossed Hamilton's face as he pressed his lips.

"If I hadn't helped Thaddeus escape from the clutches of those criminals, we both might have been tortured to death by them. One of us had to survive, to take over the family business, to be there for you and Dad. Isn't that right?"

"Chad, I will forever owe you for what happened. I just hope that you don't harbor any resentment towards Thaddeus. He was just a child then, innocent and unaware of the world," Hamilton pleaded, setting aside his pride as an elder.

On the screen, Chad's pale and handsome face slowly curled into an enigmatic smile. That smile was like a slender, cold serpent's tongue, subtly and secretly probing Hamilton's heart.

"Grandpa Hamilton, who are you talking to?"

Thaddeus, arm around Evadne's slender waist, entered the room beaming.

Hamilton stood there awkwardly, his hand clutching the phone, suspended in midair, unsure of how to proceed.

"Thaddeus? You're here," Chad's voice, laced with a smile, came through the phone.

Evadne heard that voice, smooth and rich, a voice that caressed her ears.

Thaddeus looked startled, "Chad?"

"Grandpa Hamilton," Chad's voice held a warm plea, "could I have a moment with Thaddeus? I haven't seen him in so long, and I miss him dearly."

"Thaddeus, your brother wants to speak with you," Hamilton intentionally called Thaddeus over by himself, making a point to keep Evadne out of the picture.

Thaddeus approached, his handsome face picture-perfect, "Chad, I'm here."
