The cold glint off Avery's glasses concealed the savage ferocity that bled through his wounded soul like a beast's bloodlust.
"Evadne... I know you despise me, but you can't slander me like this..."
"Slander you? Avery, you've lost your mind. If you dared to do it, why won't you own it?"
Evadne stared into his ghastly pale face, unafraid, only filled with a deep, bone-chilling anger. "When Mrs. Chambers had her episode, seemingly triggered by my words, I knew something was off the moment she started convulsing and frothing at the mouth!
You said your mother had a weak heart, but when I checked her eyes and pulse, it didn't look like a heart attack or a seizure!
Later, when her skin began to show red spots, combined with how you're acting now, it made me suspect... your mother was poisoned! You injected her with some toxin! She died of poisoning!"
Avery's grip tightened around her waist, his pale, slender hands tensing, veins bulging, his eyes blazing with fury.
"Avery... how could you? You've hurt and killed so many, and now, your own mother? How could you use and harm her like this..."
"Evadne, do you know? Your strength is your intelligence, but your flaw is being too clever." Avery's eyes reddened as he laughed, a sound more twisted and sorrowful than crying.
"Why do I do this... don't you understand yet?"
His fingers harshly clasped her chin, the force nearly crushing her delicate bone. "It's all for you... all for you!"
Avery's voice broke in a roar, his voice shattered as if pierced by a thousand needles.
To others, he was venomous and brutal, utterly inhumane.
