Chapter 4 

I stood still in place, with the words I wanted to explain right on the tip of my tongue, but I just couldn’t say them. 

Selena threw herself into Edward’s arms, crying with tears streaming down her face. 

“Mr. Matthews, I just wanted to bring the child to get acquainted with the future mother, but she unexpectedly said that my child is a bastard and not worthy of competing for the family inheritance with her Anthony!” 

“I never thought about making my child fight for inheritance. If Melanie can’t accept him, then I’ll take him away now!” 

Edward’s face turned cold as he grabbed my collar and without hesitation, slapped me. 

“Melanie, since I adopted Dexter, he became my child, regardless of whether you accept it or not, 

you must treat him well!” 

I covered my face and looked at him with teary eyes. 

Before he had a chance to defend himself, Anthony suddenly lunged at Dexter Matthews and 

wrestled with him. 

His mouth kept crying and shouting. 

“No, no, don’t bully Mommy, bad person!” 

Edward’s face darkened as he suddenly lifted his foot and kicked Anthony away. 

I roared and pounced, but it was still too late. 

Anthony’s head hit the corner of the table, and blood gushed out instantly. 

I trembled as I held him, wanting to cover his wound. 

The blood, however, flowed more and more. 

I helplessly lifted my eyes and cried, pleading with Edward. 

“Please, save our Anthony!” 

Edward wanted to go forward and pick up Anthony, but Selena screamed and grabbed his hand. 

“Mr. Matthews, Dexter’s face was bleeding, what should we do if he got disfigured?” 

Edward turned his head and only then noticed a very faint scratch on Selena’s son’s face. 

He hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he chose to pick up Dexter and walked quickly towards 

the door. 

Chapter 4

A sharp pain surged through the heart. 

I endured the pain and stumbled behind them. 

Before getting into the ambulance, Edward reached out and stopped me. 

A trace of guilt flashed in his eyes, but his tone was unusually firm. 

“Melanie, Anthony’s brain was already injured, so even if he was bleeding, it wasn’t that serious.” 

“Dexter is different from him and will become the heir of the Matthews family in the future. If he breaks the image, it will have an impact on the entire Matthews family.” 

“You wait a little longer, another ambulance will come soon.” 

Before I could answer, he escorted Selena and her child onto the ambulance and quickly 

disappeared. 

Despair and helplessness made it almost impossible for me to stand. 

Fortunately, there was a guest who was a first aid doctor, so Anthony was able to be examined and bandaged in time. 

After confirming that Anthony was fine, I changed the flight ticket and rushed to the airport with 

him. 

I called Edward one last time while I was in the car, wanting to say goodbye to him. 

As soon as the phone was answered, his angry roar could be heard.
