Chapter 7
At three in the morning, the room fell silent.
The sound of water in the bathroom rang out.
Maeve pulled back the curtain and walked out with her legs, which had lost consciousness.
She stepped over the scattered broken clothes, placed the memory card on the table, and opened the
door.
After a soft sound, a deep voice came from the bathroom.
“What sound? Is someone there?”
“How is it possible for someone to be here so late at night? Never mind, let’s try again.”
I slightly pushed open the bathroom door, then tightly closed it again.
Maeve turned around and looked at her reflection in the glass, then she turned back and closed the
door.
The streets in the early morning were empty, with no one and no cars.
She wandered aimlessly alone, with a buzzing sound in her ears, but her mind was completely
blank.
I don’t know how long we had been walking, but it was already dawn.
Maeve lifted her bruised eyes and realized, to her surprise, that she had unknowingly returned to her high school alma mater.
The campus at seven o’clock was very quiet. She walked alone on the school path, looking around somewhat absentmindedly.
Some dusty memories loosened slowly.
Donte pulled her to run around the 800–meter track of the playground, decorated the small hall with roses for her birthday, and confessed his love to her in front of the whole school at the flag–raising platform.
Everything was just like in the past, but Maeve, who was in the midst of it all, felt completely
different.
She w
walked to the teaching building and ran into the headmaster who happened to be going to work.
Because of Donte’s previous high–profile pursuit, almost all the teachers recognized her, and the principal smiled and greeted her.

“Maeve? Why did you suddenly come back to school? And where is Donte? I heard engaged recently. Did you come to hand out wedding invitations?”
Maeve forced a smile and changed the subject.

“It’s been a long time since I last came back, so I thought I’d drop by and visit the teachers.”
The two people walked and talked, recalling many past events and feeling a thousand emotions.
Before parting, the director seemed to remember something and took out a yellowed diary from the office cabinet and handed it over.
“This is the discipline check I used to do during our study sessions. I took it from Donte’s hands. Since your good times are approaching, I’ll give it back to you.”
Maeve hesitated for a moment, then took it and bowed to the teacher.
On the way back, she opened her diary and saw Donte’s flamboyant handwriting.
“On March 12th, Maeve didn’t agree with me, but she smiled at me today, and I felt like I had a chance.”
“On July 1st, the summer vacation was too long. I waited downstairs at Maeve’s house for four hours before I finally saw her.”
“On November 23rd, someone confessed to Maeve today, and it made me so angry. I ended up beating him up and got reprimanded.”
“On December 21st, today was my seventeenth birthday. Seventeen–year–old Donte’s only wish was to be with sixteen–year–old Maeve, forever, never to be apart.”
Every page had the same name, writing down the thoughts of the youth.
As she watched, Maeve’s nose suddenly felt sour, and tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.
Drop by drop, it is a tribute to the past.
It is also a farewell.
When the car stopped at the entrance of the villa, Maeve had already calmed down her chaotic
emotions.
She closed her diary, opened the car door, and came face to face with Donte, who had just returned.
Looking at the crimson hickey on his neck, she remembered what had happened during the night and averted her gaze.
