Marissa nodded politely. "Oh, alright. I'll wait here for him. It's no trouble."
Sophia hummed in acknowledgement and made light conversation with her. She could clearly see how Marissa felt about Stephen.
But deep down, Sophia was not pleased with the idea of her son ending up with Marissa. In her heart, Tessa was her true daughter-in-law.
The moment she thought about Stephen and Tessa's relationship, Sophia felt a wave of frustration.
With James and Jacqueline both arrested, and Rowena having passed away, there was no one left to object to them being together.
The only remaining obstacles were Samuel, and more importantly, the knot in Tessa's own heart.
If only the two of them could reconcile.
It had been some time since she last saw Tessa. The thought alone made Sophia sigh.
Marissa noticed and glanced at her with concern. "Mrs. Jacobson, is something on your mind?"
Sophia smiled faintly and sighed again.
"I've been worrying about Stephen's future. He and Tessa broke up and still haven't gotten back together. I think about it every day, hoping they'll work things out. I even dream of Tessa marrying into the family soon and giving me a grandchild. Stephen is already 30 and still single. It really troubles me."
Marissa's smile faltered for a moment.
Sophia pretended not to notice. She sipped her coffee and asked with a smile, "Marissa, are you seeing anyone right now?"
Marissa shook her head. "No, not yet, Mrs. Jacobson."
"How old are you now?"
"I'll be 27 soon."
"Oh dear, you're not that young anymore. Why aren't you dating? Should I introduce you to someone? One of my close friends has a son who is a year older than you. He just returned from abroad. I could arrange for you two to meet." Sophia replied in a deliberately nosy tone, playing the part of the well-meaning older woman who enjoyed meddling.
Marissa's heart sank. She finally understood. No matter how successful or impressive she was, Sophia only ever saw Tessa as her daughter-in-law. Even if Marissa had everything else, she still wouldn't be accepted.

Whoa! Hahahahahaha! Go, Sophia! Burn, stupid Rowena! Lol...
Sooo~ Chapters 310-318 were just a repeat of Jacqueline’s punishment, official expulsion from the Jacobson family, and arrest. With few changes since Tessa and Stephen are not together this time. So Tessa didn’t witness how Jacqueline was tortured at Stephen’s base, though at least Tessa was still called over and witnessed how Stephen officially expelled Jacqueline from the Jacobson family and how Stephen’s subordinate made Jacqueline grovel in front of Tessa. Lol. I hope Jacqueline’s really out of the story now....
Also a lot of chapters were missing here. I went back to the application where it was originally published that’s why i know that this site is not reliable...
Fucked up book! Seems like the authors were not talking to each other. LOL. Yes authors, because of the inconsistencies....
The story went downhill after pg200 1. Why is Jacqueline back… she was expelled from the family already 2. There was no reason for Rowena to be mad at Tessa 3. The Jacobson already knows that Stephen wants to get back witb Tessa after they deal with James, so why is Rowena pushing hard? LOL 4. The family also knows that Stephen and Nancy have some sort of deal. The story was okay from page 1-199, but clearly it’s a thumbs down. I can deal with grammatical errors, but story errors is just different now....
This is funny! Jacqueline was also the culprit why James knew that nancy was Stephen's cousin. So, really, what happened when steohen tortured jacqueline hahah...
I wonder how many authors does this book have? Suddenly jacqueline was back and continue to bad mouth tessa. And was stunned that tessa knows her feelings about stephen. And then rowena was freaking mad at tessa too; because there werw multiple instances that tessa sharp-tongued her. 🤣...
What is wrong with the story flow? At chapter 160-164 there’s this whole thing about Stephen revealing in front of all the Jacobsons family members about Jacqueline’s inappropriate feelings towards him and her involvement in murder. There’s even this “Just like that, Jacqueline was officially expelled from the Jacobson family. Stephen then promptly handed her to the authorities.” So I was already glad the bitch is out of the picture. And then suddenly at chapter 236, Jacqueline appears again like nothing happened, still being the adoptive daughter of the Jacobson family and the family being unaware of her feelings for Stephen. Seriously? Doesn’t make sense anymore....
The latest update is just a repetition of the previous chapters...
I don’t like that Stephen is dropping Tessa. They could work together to go after James. But if this happens then I’ll stop reading....
