Chapter 342
“Stork is the leader of Earthworm, so naturally, he’d be more cautious and cunning than most. Have Shane keep an eye on him at all times; we cannot afford even the tiniest oversight,” Kingsley ordered. “I’ll be heading back to Cleapolis tonight after I tie up the loose ends here in Diosna City. We’ll talk about this in depth when I see you tomorrow.”
Upon hearing that Kingsley was going back to Cleapolis, Lancer quickly said, “Boss, there’s something else you should know about—the Anonymous appears to be right here in Diosna City.”
“What?” Kingsley’s eyes lit up when he heard this.
While the world was currently in the midst of a decade-long peace, the strife under this thin veneer of harmony was still raging on. The large number of spies being sent into Qustia by other countries near the border was proof of this. It was only a matter of time before an information, intelligence, and technology war broke out. There would be no firearms and no cannon fodder, only cyber attacks that could cripple a government from within.
Take the web manager for example. If Qustia had technology that rivaled Sweoya, then there would be no need for them to rely on the Anonymous, whose loyalty had yet to be verified, to gather intelligence.
On the flip side, if the military could uncover the Anonymous’ identity and recruit them as a military organization, then the army’s technological advancement could very well reach new heights. The military of Qustia could take the lead in this espionage war if that came to pass.
But even if the Anonymous’ debut had launched them into the league of the top five hacker organizations in the world, not to mention, being the first hacker organization the military of Qustia had paid attention to recently, there was still the issue of their elusiveness.
No one knew anything about the head of the organization, its members and its location. As such, even if the military wanted to pull some strings or rub elbows with them, it would still be quite a challenge.
Consequently, the military had to beg for the Anonymous to gather intel with the promise of a ludicrous reward.
This was why Kingsley had been excited to hear that the renowned hacker group was here in Diosna City. If he could just track the Anonymous down and find out who was behind the organization, then perhaps he could make them part of the technology department in Coliree Island.
From there, he could sharpen the Anonymous’ cyber prowess like a sword and use them to stab through their enemy’s heart!
“Send me whatever information you have on the Anonymous,” Kingsley said to Lancer. “They’re vital to our espionage, and I have to personally meet with the head of the organization.”
“Coliree is all I have at the moment,” Lancer admitted ruefully. “I only learned of their location because they slipped up during the collaboration and told me they were at Solaris University in Diosna City.”
Kingsley frowned at this. “Solaris University? Is the head of the Anonymous a professor there or something?”
“Maybe,” Lancer said. “The Solaris University of Computer Science, which was what the university was originally known as, is alma mater to the CEO of the largest software producer in the country. There could be a powerful hacker hiding among the faculty.”
“Got it. I’ll drop by the university and check things out for myself,” Kingsley said. Then, he saw Serena peering in his direction and added over the phone, “I have a couple of things to take care of here. We’ll talk about this when we meet in Cleapolis. As for Stork, make sure you keep a close eye on him and call me if anything goes wrong.”
With that, he hung up and returned to Serena’s side. “Serena, I need to stay here for a while, so you’ll have to go back to Cleapolis alone.”
“Did something happen, Kingsley?” Serena asked worriedly. “Should I stay here with you just in case you need help?”
“No, I’ll be fine,” he said with a shake of his head. “I’m just meeting a few friends whom I’ve known for ages. It’s a reunion, so there’s nothing to worry about.” He grinned as he added, “Besides, you still have to go back and deal with Tyler. I bet that guy’s been tortured to the brink of death.”
She nodded, then smiled as she said, “You’re right. I’ve been away for more than a month now, and I should probably return to the company to see how everything’s going.”
