In the upstairs hospital room, Reed woke up shortly after falling asleep, drenched in sweat.
Allan held Reed's hand tightly, whispering, "I'm here, don't be afraid."
After a moment, Reed regained her senses and her gaze settled on Allan's face. "Where's my brother?"
"He's downstairs. Should I go get him?"
Reed hesitated for a few seconds, then shook her head gently. "No need."
Seeing Reed's expression, Allan felt his heart ache. He leaned down and kissed her gently, repeatedly.
"I'm sorry."
Just as Allan was about to say something to comfort Reed, she suddenly spoke up.
Confused, Allan furrowed his brows. "Why apologize?"
However, Reed remained silent, wrapping her arms around Allan instead.
Allan hugged Reed for a while, then spoke gently, "I know what you're thinking. I don't blame you for this. Don't overthink it, alright?"
Reed murmured in agreement, "I'm just feeling a bit upset."
No one wanted this kind of situation. The initial tests hadn't detected anything wrong. The decision to keep the child had been a thoughtful one. Yet, when they were preparing to welcome a new life, something like this happened-a turn of events they hadn't anticipated.
Allan hadn't expected it, and neither had Reed. It was truly an unexpected turn of events.
Understanding Reed's sensitive nature, Allan reassured her repeatedly, urging her not to dwell on it. They were still young, and there would be more chances in the future.
Comforted by Allan's words, Reed fell asleep again.
Watching Reed sleep, Allan let out a deep sigh.
At that moment, Mitch entered the room.
Thinking that Reed had been asleep the entire time, Mitch approached the bed quietly. Upon seeing Reed sleeping, he turned his attention to Allan and whispered, "Would you like to lie down on the bed for a while?"
Allan shook his head. "No need. You should go back. I'll stay here."
Mitch sat down on a nearby chair. "It's fine. I already told Natasha and the others that I won't be going home tonight."
With Mitch's assurance, Allan didn't insist further.
...
Because both Aurora and Reed were in the same hospital, Yanis had prepared breakfast for both of them in the morning and planned to bring it to the hospital.
Zane originally had an early meeting scheduled, but seeing Yanis busy in the morning, he decided to postpone it by more than half an hour.
Once breakfast was ready, Yanis and Zane left together.
"I can handle it myself. You should just go to work," Yanis said as they walked.
Zane took the breakfast from her hands. "I'll take you there. Later, you can come to the office with me."
Yanis glanced at Zane and then at the breakfast. "I don't feel like going."
"I have something to discuss with you today, be good," Zane replied.
Yanis relented and allowed Zane to take her to the hospital.
