Yanis smiled at Mrs. Fukuma and said, "Thank you, Auntie. You can sit down, I'll just sit on the edge of the bed." Yanis couldn't bend over because her back was hurting, so she had to sit up straight.
Mrs. Fukuma looked at Yanis with concern and asked, "Miss Thompson... are you okay?"
Yanis sat down on the bed and replied calmly, "I'm fine. Don't worry about me."
Fukuma wanted to say something else but stopped herself because her parents were there. She turned to them and said, "Mom and Dad, could you please go buy something to eat for me? I'm a little hungry."
Mrs. Fukuma asked kindly,"Do you want anything else?"
"No thanks," Yanis replied quickly,"Just some food for now."
"Okay then," Mrs. Fukuma nodded in agreement before turning to Mr. Fukuma,"Let's go get some food for our child."
Mr. Fukuma stood up silently and followed his wife out of the room.
After they left, Fukuma turned to Yanis with a look of apology on her face, "Miss Thompson, I'm sorry..."
"Fukuama, you don't have to apologize. I understand why you did what you did." In fact, Yanis never blamed Fukuma from the beginning.
If it weren't for Ahmed threatening Fukuma with her families, she wouldn't have done such a thing. And later, Fukuma regretted it too. She didn?? t follow Ahmed?? s orders as well.
Yanis looked at Fukuma who had become pale, and softly asked,"Are you okay?"
Fukuma gave a bitter smile,"As long as I?? m not dead, I?? m okay. But I?? ll never be able again, to be called Mummy." Her words made Yanis feel depressed without knowing why.
"I understand your situation, because I also lost two children due to accidents." Yanis?? voice was very soft.
When Fukuma heard this, she looked surprised,"You?? can?? t get pregnant either?"
"Hope is slim." Yanis answered quietly.
Fukuma sighed after hearing that,"Then there?? s still hope. Everything will be alright eventually."
Yanisa nodded in response before asking Fukuma another question,"Do you know about Ahmed?? s situation?"
"I don?? t know and don?? t want to know either." Fukuma shook her head helplessly . In fact, sometimes she thought that if Ahmed died some day, it would really liberate her completely from all these troubles.
Since Fukuma didn?? t want any more information, Yanis didn?? t say anything more either .
After comforting Fukuma for a while, Yanis left her hospital room. As soon as he stepped out, he collided with Bonnie. She gestured for her to be quiet and took a step back to let her pass.
Once Yanis was out of the room and had closed the door behind her, Bonnie spoke up. "What were you two talking about? You were in there for quite some time."
"We just chatted briefly," replied Yanis.
Bonnie walked up to Yanis and helped her walk towards Fukuma's room. "Do you think Fukuma is pitiful?" she asked.
Yanis looked at her. "Don't you think she's pitiful?"
"It's not really pity," said Yanis. "At first, it was all voluntary on her part. If she hadn't fallen in love with Ahmed, none of this would have happened."
Yanis listened to what Bonnie had to say and found some truth in her words.
The two of them returned to the hospital room just as Zane walked in carrying some food Sophia had sent over.
"I thought you were called to leave abroad or something. It was so long."
Zaneput down the food on a nearby table. "Sophia brought over some food."
Yanis looked at Zane. "Did you tell Grandma?"
"No," replied Zane."I just asked Sophia to cook something that you like."
Zane didn't want Old Lawrence or anyone else in the family finding out about what happened to Yanis.
"Should I leave now?" asked Bonnie."I don't want people thinking I'm overstaying my welcome here."
"You should stay a little longer," said Zane."You have your share of food here."
