I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin) novel Chapter 249

Chapter 249 Don't Disturb Her

Harper's silence lingered as Benjamin continued his work, the rhythmic tapping of keys punctuating the quiet of the night.

Around eleven o'clock, exhaustion claimed Harper, and she drifted off to sleep while the TV murmured softly in the background.

Once his work was completed, Benjamin briefly washed up in the bathroom before approaching the bed. His gaze softened as he looked upon the sleeping woman he held dear. With a brief hesitation, he pulled back the covers and carefully lifted her into his arms, settling beside her.

It had been days since he last held her this way, their interactions fraught with tension and reluctance on her part. Each touch, each embrace, had to be forcefully obtained.

Benjamin cradled her gently and his heart stirred, his hand instinctively resting on her abdomen where their child resided.

The presence of the growing life within her went unnoticed by him, lost in his tumultuous thoughts.

In the dimness of the room, a wistful smile graced Benjamin's lips as he tightened his hold on Harper.

Despite the internal struggle, sleep eventually claimed him.

The next morning arrived uneventfully, marked by a gentle knock on the door that roused Benjamin from his slumber.

He glanced down at Harper, still peacefully asleep. He got out of the bed and opened the door carefully.

It was Larry and Annie.

They looked surprised as they regarded Benjamin's disheveled appearance. Larry asked, "You stayed here for her the entire night?"

"Don't disturb her."

Benjamin ignored his question and hinted to them to leave.

Annie's voice was hushed as she inquired, "Harper hasn't woken up yet?"

"Yes."

"You can wake her up now, or she'll end up with a headache from sleeping too much," Annie gently reminded, but Benjamin remained resolute in his decision not to heed her advice.
