Harper frowned. Her eyes widened, and she didn't even dare to breathe.
Frank's words made her feel like her heart might leap out of her mouth at any moment.
As soon as she heard him hang up, she hurriedly walked to a nearby corner and stood there for a long time, unable to calm down.
She listened to Frank's footsteps as he exited the pantry, then finally made her way to the restroom. Several minutes later, she emerged as if nothing had happened.
But her mind was consumed with Frank's words. "Who was he talking to? Was it someone involved in the collapse incident? Was it his accomplice or someone behind the scenes?"
Harper pondered many possibilities.
Returning to her office, she barely stepped in before seeing Frank inside. Upon seeing her, Frank asked, "Harper, where did you go? I need to step out for a bit. I might not be back until the afternoon, so I'll leave things here to you, okay?"
"You are going out now? Is it a date?" She tried to maintain her composure, her tone casual.
Frank just smiled, glancing at the time on his watch. "Well, sort of. Meeting a friend."
Harper naturally didn't believe his answer. If he had really just met a friend, he would have said so directly. Besides, did he have other friends in Mayby?
Harper didn't press further, smiling faintly, "Okay, then you better go."
Frank nodded, then left the office.
Harper stood there for a moment, then called Annie and asked her to come to the office.
Annie arrived quickly, assuming Harper's back was bothering her. She asked, "Is your back hurting? I've told you not to strain yourself. Is it because of the design stuff? Why are you still standing? Lie down. Let me take a look."
"I'm fine," Harper interrupted her. She frowned and whispered, "Frank just left, and I suspect he's meeting someone related to the collapse incident."
She then recounted what she had heard at the pantry door to Annie.
They exchanged glances, and Annie furrowed her brows. "When did he leave?"
"Just now."
"Well... Should we follow him?" Annie suggested, blinking.
...
Thirty minutes later, they followed Frank to the Martin Group's construction site, where the collapse incident occurred. Frank's car stopped at the back entrance, but he didn't get out. He seemed to be waiting for the person he had spoken to on the phone, so he remained parked.
Harper and Annie sat in the back seat of a taxi parked across the street from where Frank had stopped. They didn't get out of the car either. The curious driver asked, "Are you two following your boyfriend or husband?"
Harper remained silent, entirely focused on the other side of the street. Since the road wasn't very wide, they had a clear view of everything.
