"Yes. Mr. Stanford, Mr. Robert, you should eat first. Please excuse me."
Colbert got up and walked out of the room to head to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, Eudora was standing there talking to Mildred when she noticed a shadow cast by the kitchen door.
As soon as the two turned their heads, they saw Colbert standing there.
Mildred glanced at Colbert, then at Eudora, and immediately said, "Here you are, Colbert. Since you came to help Eudora, I'll go get some firewood."
They were cooking over a pit, so Mildred excused herself by claiming that they needed more firewood when in fact, she wanted to give the two of them some space.
"Thank you, Mrs. Stanford."
Colbert smiled politely, full of respect.
"You're our guest during your visit here, so make yourself at home."
Mildred wiped her hands on her apron and walked off.
Standing at the door of the kitchen, Colbert looked at Eudora and exchanged glances with her.
At the same time, Eudora lowered her head slowly while sitting on a chair and continued adding firewood to the burning pile.
"Eudora?"
Colbert called out and approached her. He studied the woman sitting in front of the pit and burning fire. She wasn't wearing any makeup, giving her the lovely appearance of a friendly young girl.
It made Colbert's heart race without reason.
He then asked, "Why didn't you answer my calls?"
Eudora was fiddling with the tongs in her hand, poking the firewood in the pit with it while replying casually, "As I told you, the first three months would be a trial period for our relationship. In the end, I don't think we're a matching couple. So, is there a problem with me not taking your phone calls?"
Eudora raised her head and studied him with indifference.
Her fair face was calm and impassive, making it impossible to deduce her emotional state.
"Was it because of her?"
Colbert took out his phone, enlarged a photo on the screen, and handed it to Eudora.
Eudora looked up to cast it a glance.
The woman in the photo was the one who had a video call with Colton that day with her arms around Colbert's neck.
Although Eudora had only seen her once, she had etched the woman's face into her memory.
"I do not know what you're talking about."
