Eudora's brows twisted into a frown. "You sounded so confident. How so?"
Colbert couldn't help but laugh. "Your expression says it all."
"Nonsense."
Holding the tongs, Eudora shuffled a piece of firewood on the ground toward Colbert's feet and snorted coldly. "I just don't think the two of us are a matching couple. That's all."
Colbert examined the dried leaves on his black leather shoes with a smirk. "You can make a formal decision after three months. Also, allow me to repeat this: Scarlett and I are friends, and we've never crossed that line."
Although he was upset that Eudora ignored him for several days, he figured that, on the flip side, her jealousy was because she cared about him.
His mood improved a lot in an instant.
"I suppose it wasn't in vain that I set aside that major project in Camford Country to return here especially," he figured.
Meanwhile, Eudora, with her head hung low, poked at the dried leaves on the ground with the tongs in her hands without uttering a word.
"Are they really friends? If that was the case, why did Colbert lie that day?" she wondered.
"I didn't tell you the truth when you called me that day because I was worried that you might misunderstand," Colbert added, "You should know better than anyone. If I really am a playboy, I could flirt with anyone at any time, given that I'm surrounded by women. Why would I need to do that while on a trip to Camford Country?"
His reasoning sounded convincing.
Eudora had to admit that there were so many women who admired Colbert that she couldn't count.
If he really wanted to hang out with other women, he need not do so by leaving for Camford Country.
And yet, something bothered her still.
"Who knows? What if you care about that woman the most?" she muttered softly.
Those thoughtless words made Eudora pause before tilting her head to the side in embarrassment and covering her face with her hands.
"Am I an Idiot? How can I speak my mind like this?" she chastised herself in her head.
She looked adorable while embarrassed, so Colbert stared at her without blinking. He couldn't help but step forward to gently smooth her hair while cooing, "Eudora, I, Colbert Steele, don't easily make promises, so I need you to listen to me. If there comes a day when I no longer harbor feelings for you, I will inform you of it instead of going to someone else behind your back."
