Su Huaibei?
“Why are you asking about him? I was only a kid when my uncle ran away from home. He hasn’t returned since,” replied Su Shaoqing. He found it weird that Fu Chengyan was asking him such a question.
Fu Chengyan frowned and asked, “It’s been so long. Do you guys really have zero news on him?”
“What news could we possibly have? My grandpa has made it clear. If my uncle doesn’t want to come back, he can die in a foreign land. My grandpa’s words made it so that no one in the family ever went to search for my uncle, who doesn’t enjoy staying here, anyway. He has zero attachment and assets in Jiang City.”
“Huh?” blurted Fu Chengyan. I should’ve known that I can’t get much from Su Shaoqing. After all, he was still a kid at the time, so it makes sense that he doesn’t have much recollection of Su Huaibei. He probably never even met the guy before. In fact, it sounds like he is just as clueless as I am.
“My uncle left Jiang City and went to the capital to further his career when I was just a kid. I was too young to know how things went when he was there, though. All I know is that the Su family suddenly claims that they no longer recognize him as a part of the family. That was when I realize that my family had completely cut my uncle off. When I grow up, I learned that my uncle used to be a rather influential figure in Capital, but I don’t know why he suddenly left. What’s up? Why are you suddenly interested in my uncle’s matters?” asked Su Shaoqing. This is so strange.
Fu Chengyan’s beautiful eyes glowed when he heard all that from Su Shaoqing.
Wait, so Su Huaibei was there in the capital? The timing and everything match up!
“Why are you keeping quiet? Don’t tell me you bumped into my uncle.”
“No,” replied Fu Chengyan while frowning a little, “But I think there are some things you should know about.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Your uncle may have been in a relationship with Shu Qing.”
“Shu Qing? You’re not talking about that celebrity, are you?” asked Su Shaoqing as he narrowed his eyes, “Oh, f*ck! Seriously, which Shu Qing? Is that the woman who recently said she’d come to Jiang City? The one Zhou Zheng was talking about? Please don’t tell me my uncle is already in the city.”
“I don’t know about that. That’s why I called, to ask you if the Su family knows anything about him.”
“Awh, so you’re calling to get info out of me?” teased Su Shaoqing as his lips curled up, “Still, why are you so curious about my uncle’s relationship with Shu Qing? It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with you.”
“Hmm, I’m just gonna hang up since you have nothing else to share,” said Fu Chengyan. He was too lazy to continue chatting away with Su Shaoqing, so the former hung up immediately after. Su Shaoqing was left staring at his phone. He was that close to dying of anger and high blood pressure. “Chengyan is getting more and more annoying…”
Shi Nuan woke up to a delicious scent wafting into her room. She opened her eyes to see that Fu Chengyan had already gotten up and prepared breakfast. He had even brought it to the bed for her.
“You’re up,” commented Fu Chengyan as he reached out to carry Shi Nuan out of the bed like she was a princess. Shi Nuan instinctively locked herself in his arms and asked, “What did you make?”
“Porridge with shredded chicken. I got the recipe from home, so it’s a little different from what I usually make,” answered Fu Chengyan as he carried Shi Nuan into the washroom. He then asked, “Did you sleep well?”
“Yeah,” replied Shi Nuan as she laid in Fu Chengyan’s arms. She felt so relaxed that she didn’t even want to move a muscle. All she did was lean in Fu Chengyan’s arms. “Oh, so you didn’t cook it?”
“I don’t have that much free time. The butler from home had the dish delivered over. He said that the chef woke up early to prepare it, so it’s getting cold,” said Fu Chengyan as he put some toothpaste on the toothbrush then instructed, “Brush your teeth.”
Shi Nuan leaned in Fu Chengyan’s arms. She had her back to him as she brushed her teeth. She later recalled something and paused for a second before saying, “Yan, let’s go home today.”
“Huh? Why? What’s wrong?” asked Fu Chengyan while turning to her.
“It’s too tiring for you to take care of me all on your own. You still have to go to work in the morning,” commented Shi Nuan. She was not a kid anymore; it wasn’t right to live her entire life letting others worry about her. She added, “You’ve also gotten thinner lately.”
Shi Nuan pinched Fu Chengyan’s face a little before murmuring, “This is all my fault.”
“You little idiot,” scolded Fu Chengyan exasperatedly before pinching Shi Nuan’s nose, “Come on, hurry up and wash your face. We have to go to the office after breakfast.”
“Really? You’re taking me to the office?”
“Isn’t that what you asked for?” said Fu Chengyan while handing a warm towel to Shi Nuan, “How’s your temperature?”
“Just right,” replied Shi Nuan, who cleaned her face afterward. Fu Chengyan later carried her out of the washroom. Shi Nuan swung her legs a little as Fu Chengyan carried her. She couldn’t help tilting her head and teasing Fu Chengyan, “Yan, you look like a father who is taking care of a naughty daughter.”
“Like it’s possible for me to have a daughter your age!” Fu Chengyan chuckled before he arched a brow at Shi Nuan and pinched her waist a little. “You are so mischievous.”
“What’s wrong with having a daughter like me? I’m obedient, knowledgeable, and you, Daddy Yan, like me.”
“You silly, mischievous goose,” complained Fu Chengyan before he spanked her bum and warned, “Don’t call me that.”
“Alright, alright,” promised Shi Nuan. She kissed his cheek and added, “I promise I won’t disturb you when you work.”
