“No, that’s not me,” denied Shi Nuan quickly while waving her hands. She paused as the revelation hit her, and she asked, “Hold on. You think it’s me?”
Su Shaoqing’s raised his brows as he commented, “If it’s not you, then…” Su Shaoqing immediately thought of another person – Shen Qianan.
Ah, how could I have forgotten that? Shen Qianan and Shi Nuan look similar, so Shi Nuan naturally looks similar to Shu Qing as well. ”Nuan, were you at the site when this piece of news got out?” asked Su Shaoqing.
Shi Nuan nodded, and Su Shaoqing’s mind cleared up instantly.
No wonder Chengyan called me yesterday! Shen Qianan was the illegitimate child mentioned, but it must still get Shi Nuan to wonder about her own biological parents. It makes sense that Chengyan called me now.
Everything was clear to Su Shaoqing after he came to that conclusion. “Nuan, are you curious about your relationship with Shu Qing? Or do you just want to know if you are related to Shen Qianan, Shen Shixiu, and the rest of the Shen family?”
Shi Nuan was already suspicious about that, but having everything laid out in front of her still made her feel awkward.
“Don’t worry, Nuan. Chengyan actually called me last night to talk about this.”
Shi Nuan suddenly tilted her head upwards. Her eyes shone with disbelief as she looked at Su Shaoqing and asked, “Why did Yan call you?”
“Nuan, you didn’t know about that?” asked Su Shaoqing with his brows raised. He later pushed, “How much do you really know about Shu Qing?”
Shi Nuan was taken aback. She later shook her head a little and confessed, “I actually know nothing.”
Shi Nuan had learned everything she knew about Shu Qing was from Song Rongrong. However, things had changed. It seemed that Song Rongrong’s knowledge of Shu Qing was simply what Shu Qing’s PR team wanted the world to think. “I did bump into Shu Qing the backstage yesterday, though. I heard her arguing with her manager about a guy.”
“Who were they arguing about?”
“Mr. Su… I think, uhm… I think his name was Su Huaibei. Ah, yes. That’s the name. It seemed like Shu Qing was being blackmailed by the guy, but I don’t really know the details.”
Shi Nuan didn’t realize Su Shaoqing’s expression take a sharp change for the worse when she mentioned Su Huaibei’s name. However, the man shifted his expression quickly, and Shi Nuan never caught that expression. She continued, “I wonder if that guy has anything to do with Shen Qianan.”
“Don’t worry, Nuan. I’m sure Chengyan will get to the bottom of it all.”
The door to the office was then opened, and Fu Chengyan walked in. He locked his gaze on Su Shaoqing the moment he stepped into the room, his eyes shooting warnings at the latter. Su Shaoqing, on the other hand, had reverted to his bad boy style and commented, “Awh, Chengyan, you made me wait for so long.”
“What the hell are you doing here?”
Fu Chengyan’s tone was clearly hostile, but Su Shaoqing was not an ordinary man. He was a shameless and utterly annoying man who would never give a shit about how grouchy Fu Chengyan looked. “I missed you, so I dropped by to see how you’re doing.”
Fu Chengyan scoffed. Naturally, he didn’t buy a word Su Shaoqing said.
Su Shaoqing cleared his throat and spoke seriously, “Okay, fine. I came to talk to you about something important. It’s about last night…”
“May,” interrupted Fu Chengyan before turning to Shi Nuan and reminding, “Lin Yu has returned. Didn’t you say that you have tons of questions about the Aureate Jade project?”
Shi Nuan was stunned by his suggestion. She turned to Su Shaoqing, then nodded and replied, “Oh, right. I better go talk to Mr. Lin about it.”
Fu Chengyan only looked away after Shi Nuan had left the room. He prompted Su Shaoqing, “Go on, then.”
“Oh, it’s actually nothing serious. I went home and asked my family about my uncle like you asked me to, but no one seemed to know where he had gone off to. I did, however, learn something from my aunt.”
“Tell me.”
“My uncle used to be engaged to another woman.”
“And who is that?”
“As fate would have it, he was engaged to Shi Nuan’s mother, Jiang Yu.”
“What? Did you just say that your uncle was engaged to Jiang Yu?” asked Fu Chengyan, whose eyes glowed with a hint of surprise.
“Yep,” replied Su Shaoqing before he paused to sip some water, “I was pretty surprised to hear that too. Small world, huh? Honestly, Jiang Yu doesn’t act like a socialite at all, but my aunt was certain of it. Jiang Yu and my aunt were close, and I guess Jiang Yu wasn’t as unreasonable back then as she is now. My aunt even said that Jiang Yu had deep feelings for my uncle, but something happened to the two of them. My uncle ended up leaving for the capital, and Jiang Yu married another man.”
Fu Chengyan narrowed his eyes. Who would’ve thought that yet another secret is hidden within all this drama? Fu Chengyan turned to Su Shaoqing and urged, “And then what happened?”
“What else could happen? My uncle went to the capital and didn’t return after a long time. I heard that he started off as someone’s manager but later started a company of his own. He brought fame and fortune to a lot of actresses and talents, and the most famous of them all was Shu Qing. I don’t know anything else,” shared Su Shaoqing.
“Your uncle founded a business? And Shu Qing was his artiste?”
“Yep,” answered Su Shaoqing while nodding. He then commented, “What is up with this Shu Qing, though? She’s got everyone flabbergasted.” Su Shaoqing couldn’t help flipping a few pages of the newspaper on the coffee table before he tossed it aside. He said, “By the way, guess what Nuan asked me about Shu Qing just now.”
Fu Chengyan frowned and demanded, “What did she say?”
“What else could she say about Shu Qing? She suspected that Shu Qing is her biological mother and that she might be related to the Shen family,” answered Su Shaoqing with a smile. He paused before he added, “Shi Nuan also mentioned my uncle.”
