Comelia didn’t beat around the bush and said, “Thanks, sir!” 

Marina Cove in Riverton was a peculiar place where many things were beyond the reach of the law, far more frightening than what met 

the eye. 

Thinking back, Cornelia realized how reckless she’d been. Thinking she was safe with her bodyguard Ayden by her side, she overlooked just how sketchy this village really was. 

If it weren’t for Marcus stepping in just in time, her and Ayden making it out of the village safe and sound was a long shot. 

In the village, the village chief had someone get the car ready to take Roman to the hospital. But Sabrina stood her ground, not letting anyone touch her son. “You’ve wrecked our reputation in Maritia Cove today,” she said. 

The village chief gave Sabrina a cold stare. “I ruined the reputation? Or did you? Your family doesn’t have what it takes, and you want to take Marcus‘ girl? Before you make a move, maybe your son should gauge his own worth?” 

Sabrina was lost for words, “Who… who’s trying to take his girl? It’s him who stole Roman’s girl, That girl was meant for Roman. She even agreed to be his girlfriend…” 

“So what? He saw her first? So what?” the village chief retorted mercilessly. “The guy’s Marcus from the Hartley Group, not some average Joe. Any girl with the right mind would choose Marcus over your good–for–nothing son.” 

“What did you just say? You’re calling my son good–for–nothing?” Sabrina could tolerate a lot, but not someone calling her son a loser. “My son was an exchange student at the University of Riverton. He’s got. brilliant academic record. Many people want him, and after he returned home, he was the chief programmer at a big tech company…” 

“So what? Do you know what school Marcus went to? Do you know how quickly he finished his degree that takes normal people three to four years? Compared to Marcus, your son is worthless.” The village chief didn’t hold back, hitting Sabrina where it hurt. 

Sabrina turned pale, opening and closing her mouth, but no words came out. 

Comelia’s car was parked at the entrance of the village. After their escort dropped them off and wished them safe travels with a grin, Cornelia had a hunch that he was up to no good. She suspected someone might have tampered with their car and asked Ayden to 

check it. 

Ayden was one step ahead, pulling out a detector and giving the car a once–over. 

After that, he checked the car’s braking system and other parts. Once he was sure everything was okay, he told Cornelia, “Ma’am, please 

get in the car.” 

Cornelia got in the car, and Ayden drove off towards the Reese family mansion. 

Cornelia had cooled down by then, “Ayden, we’re not going to the mansion anymore.” 

Ayden was always a yes–man, always did as he was told. He never asked questions or said more than necessary. But at that moment, he asked, “Are you scared?”
