Chapter 117 Shift The
Blame
Morton narrowed his eyes and let out a disdainful snort, his face contorting into an unpleasant expression as he glared at the father–daughter duo.
‘Is there something else?‘ He glared at Matthias. ‘I’m busy and have someplace else to be.
It was clear that this party today was intended for the Cavanaugh family’s benefit.
Matthias glanced at Micah, who remained composed and emotionless, exuding an uncommon calmness for someone so young.
Matthias sighed in his heart.
If not for Micah’s questionable personal life and the countless times he had hurt Darya, he would have been an acceptable son–in–law.
‘Come on, Morton,‘ Matthias said. ‘I don’t know what you are so mad about. If anyone has a reason to be angry,
it’s me.‘
His face turned cold. ‘My precious daughter married into your family and was treated worse than a servant. Even after the divorce, you still tried to tear her life apart and destroy her reputation. Don’t you think you owe
me an explanation?‘
Matthias’s voice carried a chilly edge.
Morton’s shoulders stiffened.
Both Judy and Felicia were surprised.
Did Matthias come here to settle the score with them?
Micah tensed, his eyes fixed on Darya standing beside her father.
She was absentmindedly toying with the ring on her finger, barely sparing them a glance.
Morton, his face growing increasingly grim. ‘She never told us the truth. How were we to know she was your daughter?‘
He tried to shift the blame and find excuses for himself.
Matthias sneered, his anger transforming into a sharp retort. ‘So, you’re suggesting that she suffered abuse at your hands, and she’s at fault?‘
He was shocked by how shameless Morton could be.
Whatever little respect he had for the man evaporated.

‘When she wanted to marry your son, I opposed it, but she went ahead and did it anyway, I was furious and didn’t contact her for three years. As long as she was happy, it was enough for me. But who could have anticipated that the Cavanaugh family would treat her like that? If I had known, I would’ve never agreed to let her leave!‘
Judy anxiously interjected, ‘She lived a comfortable life in our family. There was no abuse. None. We treated her kindly. She was the one who lied to us about who she really is. Don’t have a right to be angry?”
Matthias was infuriated.
Just as he was about to respond, Darya tugged at his sleeve and stepped forward.
She let out a slow, disdainful sneer. ‘It’s just so typical. All the blame in the world has nothing to do with you and your family. It’s my own damn fault, my fault for being so submissive and letting you walk all over me. It’s my fault for giving blood, risking my health, in a futile attempt to earn someone’s gratitude and genuine affection. My fault for being blind to the truth for these past three years.”
Darya curled her lip, not bothering to hide her disgust.
Did they think she would let it slide so easily?
Did they believe she could simply forget the humiliations?
It was time to strike back.
Judy’s face froze, unable to find a comeback.
Morton shot his wife a fulminating look, angry at her interruption.
Judy cowered in fear, shrinking back and choosing to keep quiet.
Micah’s gaze locked with Darya’s, his heart sinking at the overwhelming hatred emanating from her eyes. Gone were the days when Darya looked at him with unwavering love and adoration.
The contrast between then and now hit him like a ton of bricks.
Back in the day, her love for him knew no bounds, even when he was distant and aloof.
Her affection persisted, undeterred by his coldness.
But today, everything had changed, and Micah was still reeling from the aftershocks.
It wasn’t just the shocking revelation that Darya was the only daughter of the prestigious McAllister family that left everyone in disbelief.
What truly stunned Micah was the realisation that Darya, the cherished daughter of the esteemed McAllisters, had been willing to conceal her true identity and sacrifice it all to be with him.
She had endured three long years of suffering in silence.
The weight of guilt pressed upon Micah’s chest as he grappled with the magnitude of Darya’s sacrifices.
How could he have been so blind, so oblivious to the depth of her love?
In that moment, Micah knew he had lost something invaluable.
