‘May 1?‘ The stranger asked Winfred, who blocked his approach.

Darya nodded to Winfred.

The man moved closer.

He had to raise his voice for it to be heard over the loud music. ‘Miss, my name’s Noah Atkins, a producer with Eminence. You have heard of the entertainment agency?‘

Darya nodded as she took the business card offered by the man.

Of course she had heard of Eminence.

She owned the company, after all.

‘I work for a record label under Eminence,‘ the man continued. ‘You can check out my profile on the company’s website. I heard your performance earlier. And may I say, bravo!‘

‘Thank you.‘ Darya waited for him to get to the point.

‘I wonder if you are interested in signing on with us as a talent. You sang two numbers just now. One from a light lyric soprano, the other from a coloratura mezzo–soprano. I have to say, you demonstrated incredible fluidity and dexterity in your voice. If you’d agree to come down to our studio, we can do a fuller analysis of your voice profile. Then we’d-‘

‘You are asking her to sign on as a singer?‘ Bianca interjected.

‘Yes.‘ Noah Atkins nodded. ‘She has the looks, the voice, the talent. And she’s so young. I see a lot of potential here. With some training and polishing up, we can make her the next pop diva.‘

He turned to Darya and coaxed earnestly, ‘I know you might need some time to think about it, but I’m confident we can work out a mutually beneficial arrangement. For starters, there’s a sign–on bonus of twenty thousand. An advance of fifty K as you work with us to produce your first song. And then there’s-‘

Bianca raised Darya’s left hand. ‘Do you see this?‘

Noah paused, confused.

He took a look at what Bianca was pointing. ‘Um, nice bracelet.‘

‘It’s a Harry Winston,‘ Bianca said.

As the famed jeweller once said, ‘No two diamonds are alike.‘

Each piece of fine jewellery from the House of Harry Winston contained a unique arrangement of o diamonds and gemstones.

Noah might not know much about bling, but even he had heard of the renowned jewellery brand, the creme de la crème of the industry.

He caught on immediately–this young lady could not be induced with money

He changed tack straight away. ‘I see. I still hope we can talk more about the deal. You have an amazing voice and a commanding stage presence. It will be a waste to see such talent go unnoticed.‘

He took his leave, sensing he wasn’t about to get a yes out of the lady on the spot.

Darya took a picture of Noah’s business card, then sent it to Bradley Gould, CEO of Eminence.

She also shot a text to him. ‘You’ve got a hardworking producer. He deserves a raise.‘

‘He’s got a good eye,‘ Harley commented. ‘Maybe you should give him a call.‘

Darya smiled and said nothing.

Not all her friends knew she owned Eminence.

It would sound like bragging if she mentioned it now.

She changed the topic. ‘Who wants to dance?‘

Timothy shot to his feet.

But before he could say yes, another man approached their booth.

This one came with much less benevolent intentions.

Ryan, red–eyed and stinking of alcohol, lurched to a stop.

Micah, with a dark face, was close on his heels.

Timothy stood in front of Darya like a protective mother hen. ‘Ryan Mendez! What are you doing here?‘

He smirked. ‘Shouldn’t you be at home? I heard you were grounded by your dad.‘

Though they were both trust–fund kids who liked play more than work, Timothy hated being lumped together with Ryan Mendez.

He considered himself to have more class and better taste.

Ryan swayed slightly on his feet, drunk out of his mind. ‘Tim–Timothy, this has nothing to do with you. Step aside!‘

‘I wonder what Mr Eugene Mendez will think if he knows you are here, making waves again.‘ Harley swirled her wineglass.
