Chapter 47 Know Your Enemy
‘Yes, I can do that!‘ Sharon nodded. ‘I can be your spy at the office!‘
‘I can find someone else for that,‘ Darya said. ‘Any intern can do just as good a job as you.‘
‘But there’s something an intern can never get you.‘ Sharon took a deep breath. ‘It’s not just Kemp Industries who offer kickbacks. There are plenty more companies. I know their names! I’ll give you a list!‘
Darya nodded. ‘Okay. You got your second chance.‘
‘Really?‘ Sharon almost couldn’t believe her good luck.
‘Give me that list. And stop playing games behind my back. Then I’ll consider keeping the recording to myself. The board will never see it as long as you do what I say.‘
‘Will you…will you destroy the tape?‘
Darya scoffed. ‘Do you think I’d be stupid enough to destroy my leverage?‘
Sharon bit back a sigh. ‘Okay. I’ll…I’ll get started on the list. Thank you for giving me a second chance.‘
‘I hope you remember what you promised me today. No more games. No more kickbacks. Got it?‘
‘Got it.‘
‘You are dismissed.‘
Sharon left the office with her tail between her legs.
Darya knew she couldn’t trust the woman’s word.
A leopard can’t change its spots.
Sooner or later, Sharon would revert to her old ways.
But at least she wouldn’t dare make any more waves at the moment.
With the troublemaker temporarily out of the way, Darya could focus on the Solaro project.
After spending two hours going over Solaro’s statements for the past decade, she formed a clearer picture of the company’s financial health.
Solaro was doing reasonably well.
It had a healthy bottom line, but its cash reserve was running dangerously low and it had almost tapped out credit lines with banks.

The propres pour venue was Peregor’s fuel attempt to break into the healthcare market
Word on the street was, solers, despite having its main focus on the energy sector, was working on a new gershon of personal heroux comperson robots.
They promised to offer a much more comprehensive list of functions, we could be customised to cater to the elderly or datdien.
One of their killer features was Solwo’s patented nickel metal hybrid battery, which allowed the robots to function continuously for up to a month without recharging
Kemp Industries was rumoured to be working on a similar prototype, but Bianca’s conversation with Hunter Kemp told Darya that it was just that- rumour, with no basis in reality.
There was no way Paragon would work with Kemp for this project.
Solaro had the technology
Paragon had the money, the distribution channels and the marketing network.
The two companies would be a perfect fit.
Darya was confident that Solaro’s boss would agree to the proposal
That was, as long as Zenith did not make a move.
Darya’s personal feelings about Micah aside, she had to admit that the man was a wizard at business.
He seemed to have the Midas touch, turning whatever venture he was involved in into a huge success.
If Paragon’s advantages were its long history and ultra–deep pockets, then Zenith’s was Micah’s business
acumen.
Absently, Darya spun a pen in her hand as she mulled over the possibility of Zenith joining the fight.
Though there had been no signs that Zenith was interested in Solaro, she should put out some feelers and see what she could find out.
Meanwhile, it was best to be prepared.
Darya rose, stretched her legs, had a simple lunch of angel hair pasta with herbs, then went back to work.
This time, she focused on Zenith’s financial statements.
As Dad once taught her from ‘The Art of War,‘ know yourself and know your enemy, then you can win a thousand battles.
When she looked up again, the sun had sunk below the horizon.
It was way past clock–out time.
Early stars peeked at her out of a velvet sky, competing against the luminance emitted by countless lights shops windows and office buildings.
Downtown, restaurants were doing brisk business.
