Chapter 60 Bust
The man in the black tuxedo pointed to the seat just vacated by a man who’d lost the round as well.
‘Whatever.‘ Felicia gave the newcomer a once–over.
She appreciated his broad shoulders and chiselled face, but she wasn’t interested in a hook–up tonight.
Right now, all she wanted to do was play and win.
The dealer shuffled the deck and dealt the cards.
‘Hit me.‘ Felicia tapped the table with a manicured finger.
If she wasn’t already well into the process of getting roaring drunk, she would have noticed the look exchanged between the tuxedoed newcomer and the dealer.
To the observers crowded around the table, it came as no surprise that Felicia, the well–dressed and apparently
well–heeled lady, lost again.
When she had a sixteen and the dealer was showing a six, she chose to get hit again and, as expected, went
bust.
*Slowly but steadily, her pile of chips dwindled.
The handsome newcomer egged her on. ‘Your luck’s bound to turn.‘
She believed him.
As a result, she lost one point two million dollars in just under thirty minutes.
Worked up and intent on recovering her losses, she asked for a five–million marker from the casino and wrote
out a chit for it.
One loss led to another.
Her brain addled by alcohol, Felicia wrote out more chits.
When midnight drew close, she’d guzzled about a dozen glasses of champagne and racked up a debt of fifty million dollars, before interest.
The dealer put up a hand when she asked for cards to be dealt. ‘You can’t play anymore, miss.‘
‘What the fuck?‘ Felicia shook her head and felt dizzy.
‘You’ve hit the credit limit, Miss Cavanaugh.‘
Felicia glanced back and forth between the solemn–faced dealer and the handsome stranger.
Something finally clicked.

Chapter 60 Bust
She pointed a shaky finger at the stranger. ‘You! You set me up!‘
The man backed away from her and raised both palms as if to surrender. ‘Hey, I’m just a player like you. The
house won tonight.”
‘You set me up!‘ Furious, Felicia slapped the table and lurched to her feet.
She threw her drink at the stranger. ‘You did this!‘
‘Miss Cavanaugh, please don’t make a scene.’ The dealer signalled with his right hand.
Two burly bodyguards clad in black appeared in the blink of an eye and flanked Felicia. ‘Miss, you need to calm down, or we may have to ask you to leave.‘
‘Do you know who I am?‘ Felicia shoved at one of the bodyguards. ‘Do you know who I fucking am?‘
The bodyguard, built like a tank, didn’t budge. ‘You need to calm down, miss.‘
‘Don’t you dare use that tone with me!‘ Felicia swayed on her feet.
The casino swam in front of her eyes.
She rubbed her throbbing temple with her left hand. ‘I need…I need to sit down.‘
‘If you’d like to remain at the table,‘ the dealer said coolly, ‘you’ll have to place another bet, Miss Cavanaugh.‘
‘I know! Don’t rush me!‘ Felicia grabbed a random glass from a passing waiter’s tray. ‘Just give me a minute. I’m
thirsty.‘
The dealer, along with the other players at the table, waited patiently.
Everyone present recognised Felicia’s type–too stupid to know when to give up, too arrogant to listen to advice. ‘Miss Cavanaugh,‘ the dealer spoke again. ‘If I may, I’d like to remind you that you’ve reached your credit limit.‘
‘So?‘
‘So how would you like to place your bet? We take cash or credit card, but not cheques.‘
It was a good thing her face was already bright red from the alcohol, so no one noticed her blush of
embarrassment.
She reached for her purse and came up empty.
She had a dozen credit cards, all frozen under orders from her big brother.
Felicia heard the sniggers from the spectators and felt her face heat up even more.
She gritted her teeth.
The nightmare at Remède flashed across her mind.
She would not let herself suffer the humiliation of being tossed out again.
Her gaze landed on the jade ring she wore on her left middle finger.
She removed it and tossed it onto the table. ‘Do you take jewellery?‘

‘Sure, if it’s worth it‘ The dealer picked up the ring with a gloved hand.
‘How much can 1 get for that?‘
Felicia had no idea how much the ring was worth.
