Chapter 69 High IQ But Low EQ
‘Micah, even the strongest passion can fade, Darya said solemnly. I did give you a chance. 1 gave us a chance,
for three years.‘
She looked into the distance, lost in thought. ‘It’s funny how you are calling me almost every other day now that we are divorced. While we were married, I couldn’t get hold of you no matter how many times I tried.‘
Micah tried to explain, “That was before I knew-
‘Whenever I contacted you at your office,‘ Darya continued as if she didn’t hear him. ‘it’s always the same replies “Mr Cavanaugh’s busy right now.” “Mr Cavanaugh’s in a meeting at the moment.” “Mr Cavanaugh
doesn’t have time for you.”
Darya smiled bitterly, ‘It took me almost six months to get the message–you didn’t want to be bothered by me.‘
Micah knitted his brows. ‘You called my office for six months?‘
‘Sounds stupid, doesn’t it?‘ Darya gave a self–mocking smile. Took me that long to understand something everybody else saw as plain as day.‘
Her dad often said she was his smartest child.
She used to believe that.
But now she realised that there were different kinds of smart.
Maybe she had a high IQ but low EQ
‘Mr Cavanaugh,‘ Darya spoke in a business–like voice reserved for strangers. ‘If there’s nothing else, good night. I’d appreciate it if we keep our future communications to work–related only.‘
She hung up.
Micah drummed his fingers on the desk.
He had no idea Darya called his office every day for half a year.
Who blocked her calls?
A memory suddenly flashed through his mind.
About a week after he got married, Norris Hewitt, his assistant and competent gatekeeper, came into his office and informed him Mrs Cavanaugh was calling.
Thinking it was his mother, Micah answered the phone, only to find out it was Darya Miller.

She went on and on about unimportant stuff, like asking what he had for lunch and when he was coming home.
Impatient, Micah hung up on her.
He’d had a full day of meetings, fighting fires everywhere.
Irked by the distraction and waste of time, he ordered Norris to stop patching her calls to him.
After that, he never received any more phone calls from her while he was at work.
Looking back, Micah knew he had no one else to blame but himself.
Norris was just doing his job.
Maybe Darya was right–they were not suited for each other.
Regardless of whether their personalities were compatible, he would always put work first while she seemed to be more sentimental.
Was that why they said men were from Mars and women from Venus?
Was he wrong in trying to pursue her?
Micah pushed to his feet and started pacing in his office.
The floor–to–ceiling glass wall offered the best view of a city that never slept, but Micah was no longer in the mood to enjoy it.
Meanwhile, Darya had a good night’s sleep and woke up in the morning, feeling refreshed.
She claimed she didn’t need Micah’s apology, but she had to admit it felt good to hear him say it.
During her three years living with the Cavanaughs, she was used to being bossed around, criticised, even
humiliated.
But the worst part was his disregard.
It was as if she didn’t even exist in his world, except for the times when Regina needed a blood transfusion.
Darya shook her head and dismissed all thoughts of Micah from her mind.
Then she went downstairs for breakfast, gearing up for another long day at the office.
At the moment, work was her priority.
She would not let herself be distracted by personal stuff.
Without Douglas there to stir up trouble, Darya’s second meeting after she returned to work went extremely
well.
The project members, under threat of getting kicked off the team, whipped themselves into shape.
Darya was about to clock out for the day when Glen Chasey came into her office.
‘Miss Miller, Mr Cooke called. He would like to have dinner with you. Said he wanted to talk to you about the project.‘

‘Sure Did he mention a time and a place?
He already has a restaurant booked, if you are available.‘
Tine‘ Darys grabbed her cost. I’d never turn down a free meal
Glen drove her to the restaurant twenty blocks away.
The CEO of Solaro rose to his feet when Darya came into the private booth.
So did Micah Cavanaugh
Darya shot a quick look at her assistant.
Glen replied with an apologetic shrug.
He didn’t know Micah was going to be here.
Darya shook hands with Reece and dispensed with the small talk. ‘Mr Cooke, I assume there’s an agenda for
this dinner meeting?”
Reece chuckled and scratched his cheek. ‘Miss Miller, the three of us will be working together for quite some time. Naturally, I hope we can all get along. Consider this a get–to–know–you session.‘
‘I already know you, and I’m acquainted with Mr Cavanaugh.’ Darya didn’t like to be ambushed.
She was familiar with the way Reece worked.
