Chapter 30 What’s Going On With Chloe’s Family?
“Tsk…” Joseph sat down, leaning lazily into his chair and putting his long legs up on the coffee table as he spoke in a sarcastic tone, “If you’re so capable, why don’t you become a doctor? Those other doctors would surely worship you for your ability to control women’s reproductive cycles.”
“What nonsense are you spouting? I’m already old, so is it wrong for me to want to hold a great-grandchild?” Harold’s expression became livid. “Besides, you went ahead and registered your marriage with Coco without even having a wedding or giving her any gifts. What do you think people will think of her?”
This remark caused a sense of warmth to blossom in Chloe’s chest. She poured a cup of tea for Harold and explained in a gentle voice, “Grandpa, it’s not his fault. It was my decision to not hold a wedding since we’re both so busy with work. Besides, as long as we love each other, having a wedding or not doesn’t matter.”
“No, this is unacceptable. A person only gets married once in their lifetime. How can you not have a wedding just because you’re busy?” Harold took a sip of tea to soothe his.
throat.
Chloe could not convince Harold, so she threw a glance at Joseph. However, Joseph showed no intention of helping her. She had to bite the bullet and said, “We can discuss this later, okay? For now, let’s focus on enjoying our meal, Grandpa.”
“Fine, but you two have to make a decision soon. I want to throw a grand wedding and invite all of my old friends. When they see that the young troublemaker from my family has found such a beautiful wife, they’ll be so envious.” Harold chuckled.
At the dinner table, Harold continued to talk about the couple’s future wedding, even suggesting how many children they should have. Chloe initially tried to make light of the subject, but Harold became emotional and tears welled up in his eyes.
A twinge of remorse shot through Chloe as she realized that it was one of Harold’s greatest desires to witness his grandchildren tying the knot and having kids. Sadly, she could not fulfill his wish as their marriage was a sham.
‘It’s fine,’ she thought. She just needed to work hard to win over Joseph’s heart and turn their contractual relationship into a real one so that they could fulfill Harold’s wish.
“Oh, by the way, when do your parents have time? Both our families should sit down and have a meal together,” Harold said.
As his grandson had married Chloe without informing anyone, he felt it was necessary
to provide an explanation to Chloe’s family.
“Grandpa, I’ll decide on that in my own time..”
Harold paused for a moment as if he had understood something and his gaze deepened. However, he did not inquire any further on the topic.
“A few of my relatives will be here in a while. How about you go upstairs and get some rest first?” Joseph spoke up.
“Okay,” Chloe replied and nodded lightly.
As soon as she was gone, Harold’s expression turned serious as he asked, “What’s going on with Coco’s family?”
“She lost her mother and her father remarried,” Joseph replied.
“And then?”
“She doesn’t get along with her stepmother.”
“What about her father? Does he treat her well?”
Joseph got annoyed with Harold and left. “Don’t bother me with such trivial matters.”
After that, he headed upstairs.
Harold felt crestfallen. He had only wanted to show his concern for his granddaughter- in-law, but it seemed like his intentions had been misconstrued.
“If you want to know anything, sir, I can send someone to investigate. That’s just how Mr. Joseph is. Haven’t you gotten used to it by now?” The butler chuckled.
“You’re right. Don’t forget to prepare some gifts too.”
Joseph’s room was on the third floor. It was painted in black and white and was about
1,000 square feet in size. Other than a bed, there was an enormous couch where Chloe sat, browsing through a job search site.
