Joseph’s lips pressed into a tight line and his fists clenched in frustration as the answer came to him—Noah must have witnessed their intimate moment. But it was never Chloe’s intention to do such a thing, so both of them harbored resentment. In a fit of anger, they must have confronted each other.
The door to the private room swung open, and Lucas entered with Emily. They were both panting heavily.
"Sir, they refused to let us in,” Lucas said.
"Noah didn't come out, and the house helpers said they were asleep. The helper also said Noah’s going on a business trip tomorrow morning and told me to come back another day," Emily reported anxiously, her face flushed. "What happened to Coco? Did something happen? She’s at the Sullivan manor, so she should be safe…"
Joseph looked at Vince. Receiving Joseph's signal, Vince tugged at Zoelle's clothes as he said slyly, "Come on, I'll take you back to the bar and we’re going to party it up."
"It's almost dawn. The bar’s closing soon, you silly dog," Zoelle retorted. She knew Joseph did not want her listening in on their conversation, so she pretended to yawn and said nonchalantly, "Just send me back to my hotel. This place is so remote. It’ll be hard to get a cab."
She was pretty certain that Joseph and Noah were fighting for Chloe's affection, but she had no interest in discussing this with Noah. After all, that guy may appear mild and affable on the surface, but he was quite shrewd beneath it all.
As Zoelle left, Emily urged Joseph, "What's going on? Tell me!"
He replied gravely, "Noah might be controlling Chloe somehow.”
"What? But that’s impossible. He wouldn't dare to do that with Mr. Desmond around."
Emily fell silent. She then called Chloe, but the mechanical voice told her that Chloe’s phone was turned off. The atmosphere grew tense as all the signs pointed to something unusual going on. At first glance, it might not seem like a big issue, but with a bit of thinking, everything was just too coincidental. From Noah's reactions to the helpers' behavior, it was as if an intricate web had been woven to obscure the truth.
Deciding to infiltrate the Sullivan manor, Joseph gathered a few elites of Imperium. But before he could leave, Gabriel stopped him. His face bore a look of disapproval. "I think you should contact Mr. Desmond first and inform him about this."
After all, the Sullivans' influence in Docwood was extraordinary. While the Whitmans had the strength to stand their ground and would not necessarily lose, barging in without prior notice would be impolite and disrespectful.
Joseph pushed Samuel away, his eyes flashing with determination. "I can't care about that right now. If something happens to Chloe, I will kill Noah."
Chloe had endured so suffered greatly in the first half of her life. By the time he realized this, it was already too late. He could not let her suffer anymore.
