The finance director sighed in relief when Lucas appeared. "Mr. Lucas, they are..."
"Leave this to me."
The finance director turned and hurriedly left. "Sure, thank you!"
"It’s useless even if you’re here. You're just Joseph's lapdog." Preston sneered. "Stop wasting time and give me the money. If I'm in a good mood, I might let you stick around."
Frowning, Lucas replied, "You were just released from prison not too long ago, right? Have you already forgotten the instructions Mr. Joseph gave you?"
After selling company secrets, Preston was sent to prison and spent several years behind bars. As for Jonathan, he became an unwanted person, avoiding public attention and hiding in various places. He had not shown himself for a long time.
As soon as the past was brought up, Preston's face turned dark with anger. "Who do you think you are?! How dare you talk back to me!"
"I'm certainly not a big shot, but you've been disowned by the Whitmans. What makes you think you can come to Fairlight and demand money?"
"While I've been disowned, my son wasn’t. Besides..." Preston grinned maliciously as if he had encountered the happiest news, "The Whitmans only have two legitimate heirs. Since Joseph is dead, someone has to take over the family business, right?"
Lucas' mind buzzed but he forced himself to calm down. "Mr. Joseph isn't dead. If you don't leave now, I'll call security."
"He's not dead?" Jonathan arrogantly pulled out a photo of the car explosion on the mountain road. "Look at this photo and tell me otherwise. Are you sure he's not dead?"
"Where did you get this?" Lucas asked as he glared at him suspiciously.
"That’s none of your business. Anyway, from now on, Fairlight and the Whitman Group will be under our control. You can go wherever you please."
Lucas gritted his teeth but there was nothing he could do. Ultimately, he was just an outsider and could not interfere in the Whitmans’ family matters. But when it came to work, he was determined to do his best. After all, he had been with Fairlight for many years. He did not believe that there was nothing he could do.
He did not waste his time talking with Preston. He turned and left the office, immediately instructing the various department managers in the work chat group to continue working as usual and not to believe any words from anyone other than Joseph.
