Lenny could only stare at the doctor with wide eyes.
"I didn't do a detailed examination on her before, so I didn't find out about her pregnancy. I did a blood test for her this time, and I was able to confirm it. She is three months pregnant," the doctor explained.
A flurry of mixed, complicated emotions immediately plagued Lenny. He didn't expect that he would get Rosaline pregnant after sleeping with her that night.
"But Miss Marshall is weak and in a bad mental state right now. She can't be subjected to any kind of stress. Because she is unstable, the fetus is also unstable. She needs to be very careful."
"I understand. Thank you, Doctor."
At this moment, outside the door, Scarlet was caught in a tangle of emotions.
Rosaline was three months pregnant. Her baby was of the same term as Scarlet's baby.
What a coincidence! And the father was one and the same.
Scarlet didn't have time to think too much. She straightened her back and knocked on the door.
Lenny turned around and saw her.
She looked like a hot mess. Her hair was disheveled, and her face, hands, and arms were peppered with small wounds.
It suddenly occurred to Lenny that he was so eager to save Rosaline that he pushed away Scarlet too hard.
She must've fallen into one of his grandmother's rose bushes. How could her petite body bear the pain?
However, when he thought about what she had done to Rosaline, he gnashed his teeth together and shot Scarlet a cold look.
At least Scarlet was still able to stand here. Rosaline was lying in bed, unconscious and in poor condition. She was pregnant with his child. What if something went wrong and she died with his unborn baby? Lenny narrowed his eyes and clenched his fists.
Meeting his gaze, Scarlet felt uncomfortable. She felt like his sharp, cold eyes pierced all the way to the depths of her soul. He hadn't said a word, but she felt like he'd already cursed her for trying to harm Rosaline.
"How dare you come here?"
Lenny frowned and spoke in a low, displeased voice. Although anger was simmering in his eyes, they still retained their charm.
Scarlet swallowed, feeling overwhelmed by his powerful aura. She was scared, but she refused to back down without telling her side of the story. "I'm sorry for what happened today..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Lenny interrupted her. "If you have unresolved issues because of our divorce, you can just tell me. You don't have to complain to Grandma and use her to torment Rosaline. I thought you were a considerate girl, but you turned out to be just another vicious, vindictive woman."
Lenny's words dealt a lot more damage to her than the thorny rose bushes.
Vicious and vindictive.
In his eyes, she was that kind of woman.
What did she do wrong?
She just wanted a divorce, but in the process of getting it, she lost her virginity and got pregnant.
She didn't dare to tell Lenny because she was afraid that he would force her to get an abortion. She didn't want to interfere in his life, either.
She didn't know about Marlene's plan of inviting Rosaline to the mansion. If she had known, she would've stopped the old lady. As for what happened this morning... Scarlet wanted to prove her innocence.
She gritted her teeth, clenched the kitchen shears, and stabbed at Lenny. He reached out and grasped her wrist.
"Scarlet Brown!"
He yelled out her name as his heart leapt to his throat because of the sudden move that she made.
Ignoring him, she attempted to pull the shears back, but he was too strong for her, and she failed.
"Let go of me!" Scarlet cried.
"You want to kill me? You're sorely overestimating yourself."
Lenny loosened his grip. He didn't take Scarlet as a threat at all. He wouldn't get hurt even if dozens of women like her tried to kill him.
The moment he let go, she stumbled backward and the shears were quickly pulled back toward herself because of the inertia. But since Scarlet was holding the handles, Lenny believed that it wouldn't cause her any harm.
However...
In the blink of an eye, Scarlet flipped the shears and pointed the sharp end toward herself.
Next thing Lenny knew, the sharp end of the shears was piercing her shoulder.
Blood gushed out, and her shirt's shoulder area bloomed red. The pain made her gasp and break out in cold sweat.
Lenny could only squint at his ex-wife in distress and confusion.
The moment he saw the shears punch a hole in her delicate skin, his heart sank. He even felt the urge to rush over to her and check on her bleeding wound. But he held himself back.
