Chapter 512 The Peace Pact
*Zander*
I had to let go of Selena because I received a mind link from Maddox.
"Alpha, Vampire Prince Damon is waiting for you in your office."
Lyon growled in frustration. He wanted to know what hidden motives our ex-mate had, but due to the urgency of the matter, I had to leave. However, before departing, I made sure to remind her that our business wasn't finished.
Vampires and werewolves were always eternal enemies locked in a blood feud spanning centuries. What could possibly bring the Vampire Prince to my doorstep? I knew better than to trust those bloodsucking creatures of the night, yet I couldn't help but be intrigued by his intentions behind this peace pact proposal.
With determination, I swiftly departed from the pack house. Striding purposefully through the hallways and opening the door to my office, I took in the sight before me. Vampire Prince Damon stood in the center, emanating an aura of icy elegance. His blond hair cascaded down his shoulders, framing a face masking all the feelings and emotions of this alluring Vampire Prince. However, behind those sapphire eyes, there was something deceptive lurking, sending strange vibes my way.
"Alpha King, Zander," Damon greeted with a suave voice that dripped with calculated charm. "You've kept me waiting for too long. I've come seeking an alliance, a peace pact between our species, and I want it done as soon as possible."
My eyes narrowed as skepticism laced my voice. "Peace, Damon? Between vampires and werewolves? It's hard to believe you've suddenly developed a fondness for unity."
Damon flashed a cryptic smile, his fangs barely concealed. "Appearances can be deceiving, Alpha King. Let's just say my motives are more...complicated than they seem."
The tension in the room was palpable as we both sized each other up. Our dialogues became a dance of veiled threats and sarcastic remarks, each word uttered like a venomous barb.
"You think I'll blindly trust you, Damon? After all the bloodshed your kind has caused?" My voice held a steely edge, Lyon's instincts on high alert.
Damon leaned against the desk, his expression unreadable. "Trust is a fragile thing, Zander. But perhaps we can find common ground—a way to coexist without resorting to violence."
My lip curled into a sarcastic smirk. "Coexistence, Damon? I've heard that before. It always ends in betrayal. You'll excuse me if I'm not eager to repeat history."
The air grew heavy with tension as our locked eyes engaged in a silent battle of dominance and suspicion. My gaze pierced through Damon, searching for any signs of deception. I knew that vampires were masters of disguise, their true intentions often shrouded in darkness.
"So, Damon," I began, my voice laced with skepticism, "You have come to my territory seeking peace between our species. Is this a genuine plea or merely a ploy to gain an advantage?"
Damon chuckled softly, his lips curling into a sly smile. "Oh, Zander, you wound me with your mistrust. Can't a vampire have a change of heart?" His tone dripped with false sincerity, a hint of mockery underlying his words.
My eyes narrowed, his voice tinged with bitterness. "Forgive me if I find it hard to believe that centuries of animosity can suddenly vanish. What hidden agenda do you carry beneath your charming facade, Damon?"
Damon's gaze flickered with something in them, but just as quickly, he masked it with a facade of innocence.
"Agenda? Surely you don't think me so devious, Zander. I've seen the devastating toll this eternal conflict takes on both our kind. I seek an end to the bloodshed."
I scoffed, my skepticism unyielding. "You expect me to believe that you've grown weary of immortality and endless power? That you suddenly yearn for peace?"
Damon's voice dropped to a dangerous whisper, his eyes gleaming with hidden malice. "Power, Zander, is a double-edged sword. Even the immortal can grow weary of the endless cycle of violence. Perhaps I seek a different kind of power—one that comes from unity rather than domination."
I couldn't buy that so easily. I observed him closely. "Unity, Damon? You forget our nature, our instincts. We are born to be enemies, destined to clash until the end of time. Don't expect me to trust your words blindly."
Damon's gaze hardened, his tone dripping with venom. "Trust is a luxury we cannot afford, Zander. But we can forge an alliance, a fragile agreement that keeps the peace, at least for now. After all, our true enemies may lie beyond our own kind."
I frowned, my voice resonating with a warning growl. "Make no mistake, Damon. Should you betray this pact, there will be no mercy. The wrath of my pack will be swift and merciless."
Damon's lips curled into a wicked smile, his voice laced with dark amusement. "Ah, Zander, the thrill of the hunt. It seems we are more alike than we care to admit. But remember, should you falter, I, too, have my ways of bringing devastation upon your kind."
My voice resonated with reluctant acceptance as I extended an invitation to Damon, my gaze unwavering. "Very well, Damon. You are welcome in my pack and may enjoy our hospitality for the time being. But know this, I will be watching your every move, for I do not trust you or your kind."
