PART 2 – CHAPTER 132
LUKE
The bass thrummed beneath my feet, making the glass in my hand vibrate with every beat. The VIP section Jocelyn had somehow hooked us up with was perched above the dance floor, giving a perfect view of the crowd below. Neon lights cut. through the fog, casting bodies in fleeting shades of blue, pink, and green. I leaned back into the booth, trying to shake the unease, tightening my chest. The place reeked of sweat, alcohol, and something else–maybe lust.
I glanced across the table, and there she was: Jess. That tiny black dress hugged her like a second skin, highlighting every curve, every inch of her toned legs that seemed to stretch for days. The same legs I knew had been running track, probably pushing herself harder than ever, and I hadn’t even asked her about it.
Fuck, I’m an asshole.
She looked stunning, sure, but a small, primal part of me didn’t like how many eyes were on her. It wasn’t just jealousy, it was… protective, possessive. Every guy in this place had probably taken a look at her, and my blood boiled at the thought of anyone else even thinking about touching her.

But a solid hand clamped down on my shoulder before I could close the distance. I spun around, ready to tell whoever it was to fuck off when I saw Josh grinning down at me, his eyes glassy.
And standing next to him was Courtney.
Shit.
I stood up, slapping a grin on my face and pulling Josh into a hug, but my voice dropped into a low growl as I leaned in close. “What the fuck is Courtney doing here?”
Josh just shrugged, swaying a little. “She was at the game. Her friend’s hot, so I invited them.”
Double shit.
Josh was drunk–wasted, actually. His words were slurred, and he looked like he was about two drinks away from passing out. I could see it in his eyes: the loss earlier had hit him hard, and now he was using alcohol to numb it.
I
I clenched my jaw, glancing from Josh to Courtney.

She pouted, sticking out her bottom lip in that exaggerated way she always did when she didn’t get her way. “Awh, but babe-”
