CHAPTER 28
LUKE
Practice was brutal in this heat, and I needed to cool off. Josh bailed on me after practice to pick up Laura, the last person I thought Josh would ever hit.
Laura seems to be a recurring thing for a guy who prides himself on one–and–done. His sister’s best friend, how fucking ironic that his best friend would like nothing more than to take his sweet sister.
I knew Jessica would be pissed.
Josh and Jessica haven’t been on the same page since–well, since we kind of ruined her reputation and convinced the entire male population of the school that she’s not to be touched or even looked at for more than three seconds.
But now, Tom has the green fucking light. Why the hell Josh gave him the go–ahead, I’ll never know. Jessica would have been fine if he had just listened to me about Bryan. But now, she’s on some desperate course to lose her virginity to the first half–decent guy.
She deserves fucking better, and Josh should know that he’s her brother! Not me, definitely not me. I know we used to say that we were all family back in the day, but the more I look at her, the more indecent fucking feelings surface.
So when Tom walked into the locker room this afternoon with a

massive smile plastered on his pretty–boy face, I wanted to beat it off. I didn’t of course. What would that make me? The pot was calling the kettle black or some shit.
I had to bite down on my words when he told me he was taking Jessia on a date and planned to take her to the lookout point. The fucking Lookout point. Everyone knows what happens there, and just thinking of Tom putting his hands on her… was just… fuck.
I shot up and pulled out my phone. I needed to cool off.
“Josh. Bro. I need to cool off. Do you mind if I go over to your place and for a few laps?” I knew he was with Laura tonight – having plans of his own.
“Yea. Listen. I wanted to ask you a favor. Anyway, if you are there, it’s easier.” Josh was distracted by something in the background, so I waited, patience not being one of my virtues.
–
“Sorry. Listen – Jessica is going out with Tom, and I need you to be there when he drops her off. If she looks a little off or even just slightly unhappy – you know what to do. Just make sure she’s okay. She’s like your sister anyway. That cool?” I was grinding my teeth so hard I almost cracked a tooth my sister. I almost snorted on the phone at how fucking ridiculous that is. Jessica is nothing like a sister to me… if only Josh knew what I really thought of her. These are thoughts I’ve been having for a while now.
“Sure, bro.” Because I’m a sucker for fucking punishment, “Of course. Are you coming home tonight?
