CHAPTER 82
LUKE
You’ve got to help. It’s Jess and Laura… something’s wrong.”
My chest tightened like a vice. “What do you mean? What happened? Talk Sam! Use your fucking words!” My voice was sharper than I meant it to be, but panic was already creeping in.
Sam took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself. “I got to the house, and the front door was wide open. I thought maybe they heard me coming and just left it like that, so I walked in.” She hesitated, tears welling up in her eyes.
“But the house was empty. I looked everywhere–Jess’s room, the living room… nothing. But their stuff was there. They definitely got ready for prom.”
Josh’s face was drained of color, his fists clenching so hard that his knuckles turned white. “And then what?” he demanded, his
voice tight with fear.
Sam swallowed hard, her voice barely a whisper as she continued. “I went back outside, thinking maybe I missed something. And that’s when I saw it… I ran right over it without even noticing.” Her voice cracked, and the words came tumbling out. “Blood. There was blood on the doorstep.”
The world around me went silent. The music, the laughter–it all faded away, leaving just the sound of my heart pounding in my
ears.

“How much blood?” I asked, my voice strained, barely holding back the panic.
“Enough,” Sam replied, her voice trembling. “I didn’t know what else to do, so I came here as fast as I could.”
I stared at her, my mind racing. “You didn’t call the fucking cops?” Josh growled, the drunken haze lifting as he yanked out his phone and dialed 911.
“Wait… phone. Did you check if they left their phones?” I asked Sam.
“No, I don’t think… I don’t think I saw their phones. Maybe they have them with them?” Sam said, clinging to that thin hope. I pulled out my phone and opened the tracker.
“I can’t find Jess’s phone. Try Laura’s,” I told Josh, who was already on it. “The cops are on their way to the house.”
