“No. No such thing.” She hurriedly waved it off.
Wilbur thought that it should not be happening because Nancy was the general manager of the building, and Chelsea had her back Who would dare mistreat her?
“What was that then?” he asked puzzlingly.
Nancy shot him a look and led him to a discreet corner.
She said uncomfortably, “There had been a lot of rumors ever since I became the general manager. Some of them aren’t nice, so I felt a bit embarrassed to see you.”
He thought about it, and he finally understood what she meant.
Basically, there were rumors spreading, about them because he helped her become the general manager. The rumors were about Nancy hooking up with a big shot. It was not uncommon in the workplace.
He smiled softly and said, “Let them be. We can’t control what people say.”
She silently nodded.
“How have you been? Are you doing alright at work?” Wilbur tried to engage in small talk
She nodded and said, “I’m not very familiar with some parts of the job. I’m still adapting”
“Take it easy. I have something to discuss with Miss Willow. I’ll talk to you later.”
He did not plan to hang around because he wanted to avoid arousing suspicion.
She gestured by waving her hand and said, “Hurry up and go. I’m on vacation tomorrow, and my grandpa’s death anniversary is near. I’m planning on going back to my hometown.”
Her heartbeat escalated when she finished that sentence. She wondered why she told him that even if it had nothing to do
with him.
However, Wilbur was instantly intrigued by what she said.
They were classmates and they sat next to each other in school. They were also from the same town. His grandpa was buried there too. How long has it been since he last visited his grandpa’s grave?
He frowned when he thought about that, and he said, “I’ll go with you tomorrow to pay respects to my grandpa too.”
“Alright,” She casually agreed, but she was blushing.
He did not mind it. He waved it off and headed toward the elevator.
Chelsea was in her office.
Wilbur opened the door and entered the room. He said, “I hope I’m not disturbing you, Chelsea”
