Lost Me, Gained Regret (Jane and Bryant Ferguson) novel Chapter 851

Merritt could only dream of the privileges Dailey was born into—privileges he would never attain, no matter how hard he tried.

This disparity, every time it was mentioned, felt like an invisible slap across his face. But even so, he was determined to help Christine.

"You don’t understand her at all," he said bitterly. "You can’t comprehend why she’d choose to be with someone like me—someone who's wronged her and has nothing to offer—over you, with all your wealth and power."

Dailey frowned at Merritt’s words, clearly puzzled, yet unwilling to lose face in front of his rival.

"She will eventually be my lawful wife," Dailey stated confidently.

Merritt countered, "She won't be happy."

"You’re not her. She will be happy," Dailey insisted.

Merritt pressed on, "And you're not her, so how can you be sure?"

Dailey had no interest in engaging in this childish argument. "Don’t think that just because your grandmother is nearing the end of her life, there's nothing left to threaten you with. If I were in your shoes, Merritt, I’d tread carefully."

"Shut up!" Christine exclaimed, emerging from behind Dailey. "What nonsense are you speaking in front of God?"

She had come today primarily to pray for Helena, hoping the elderly woman would spend her remaining days in peace. But words like "end of life" were not something to toss around lightly before the Almighty.

"Dailey, I’m here to pray today. Let’s put everything else aside for now."

"Alright," Dailey agreed.

Relieved at his concession, Christine relaxed slightly. But before she could fully exhale, Dailey added, "Once you’ve finished praying, we’ll head to Vista Town to get our marriage license."

Annoyed, Christine, knowing they wouldn’t succeed, decided to go along with it nonchalantly. "Fine."
