Angela spoke with indifference, as if she had already figured everything out, “So Marcus has an illegitimate child,” she stated flatly. 

The man’s face seemed to shift slightly, but then he raised his eyebrows. “Correct. And what else?” 

Angela shook her head. “All I know is that my in–laws have a strained relationship. Other than that, I’m clueless. And by the way, you just addressed me as Angela. So obviously, you know about Dexter and the Bamford family’s affairs. 

“As for detaining me, I can only assume something has happened to you or someone close to you and you need money urgently. Plus, you can also make the Bamford family look bad, which would probably be a satisfying outcome. 

The man let out a hearty laugh at her calm demeanor. “That’s quite clever; no wonder you’re-” 

“And what’s your name?” Angela interrupted, raising an eyebrow. 

She couldn’t believe it. She wondered how angry Fiona would be if she found out her husband had been cheating on her so blatantly. She might even take a knife and chop him into pieces! 

“I’m Trevor Bamford.” The man smiled, which made the distinctive mole near his eye even more noticeable. He had a strikingly handsome face with a rugged yet regal quality that reminded Angela of Dexter. 

“What is your issue with Dexter? It seems like he has no idea you exist,” Angela asked. 

Trevor sneered coldly in response. “He doesn’t know? Is that possible? If it weren’t for him, I would be the one in charge of the Bamford family.” 

Angela inwardly rolled her eyes at Trevor’s idealistic thinking. Did he really believe it was easy to become head of the Bamford family? 

Even Joseph’s two sons had fought for it their whole lives but still hadn’t managed to get it. Instead, Dexter had been able to get the title before them. 

Since becoming head of the family, Dexter had pushed his father, uncle, and cousin out and hadn’t given anyone the chance to challenge his authority. 

Sure, he may be a bit emotionally dense, but in all other aspects, he was undoubtedly strong. How could someone like that be defeated so easily? 

Angela’s voice was tinged with indifference as she asked, “So tell me, why did you capture me? For money or for power?”

Angela truly believed this to be true; after all, she knew her place well. 

Trevor said, “Okay.” 

Then, he stood up abruptly and grabbed her by the neck forcefully. He dragged her toward the edge of the building, where there was no railing. The cold wind howled in every direction. 

Below Angela, everything was dark, like an abyss waiting to swallow her whole. With just a little more force from Trevor, she would fall and break into pieces. 

“Let’s see if he truly cares about you,” Trevor said through gritted teeth, his eyes bloodshot and his voice seething with anger. He video called Dexter. 

“Dexter, long time no see.” 

Trevor held Angela’s throat firmly in one hand and raised his phone in the other, so that the person on the other end could see everything clearly. 

Angela’s chest tightened as she struggled to breathe, tears streaming down her face from fear. She trembled uncontrollably, knowing that she was teetering on the brink of death. Meanwhile, on the video call, Dexter was casually sitting at his dining table, enjoying a meal by himself. He seemed tired, as if he had just come home from work. 

When he saw what was happening on the other end of the call, his expression remained unchanged. He continued chewing nonchalantly and took a sip of red wine. 

“So, you’re going to kill someone?” After a brief pause, he gave a small smile and spoke with a touch of sarcasm.
