Chapter 143
Angela was in an excellent mood today. Even the breeze on her way to the office felt refreshing.
However, upon arriving at the company, she noticed something was off. People looked at her with a mix of sympathy and strange expressions.
“What’s going on?” Angela called Clara over.
Clara appeared a bit uncomfortable, hesitating for some time before saying, “Ms. Graham, rumors are going around that you were kidnapped in Montivale by some thugs for days, and… And those men… You know…”
Angela’s mind went blank for a moment, the ringing in her ears growing louder. Who would be vile enough to spread such disgusting rumors?
Didn’t they have any shame for creating such trouble for her?
“Go back to your work,” Angela said coldly. “No, come with me to the PR department.”
The two of them made their way to the PR department head’s office. As they reached the door, they could hear voices from inside.
“How should we handle this? Ms. Graham is one of our company’s rising stars. She helped us win a big award. We can’t let her reputation be tarnished,” said Yulia Bennett, the PR department head’s assistant.
“You could just issue a press release to bury the matter. Who knows if the rumors are even true? We weren’t there, so how can we know what really happened?” Gabriel Foster, the department head, sneered.
His dismissive attitude showed he didn’t care much about the issue.
“So, it turns out you’re quite the gossip, Mr. Foster. Since you have doubts, why don’t you come and ask me directly?” Angela’s voice was cold and sharp as she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Her anger was palpable and sent a chill through the room.
Gabriel was startled and quickly got to his feet, trying to greet her with a smile.
Everyone knew Angela was now a favored figure in front of Callum, and he couldn’t afford to offend her.
“Ms. Graham, we were just discussing how to handle this. You’ve misunderstood me. Of course, I want to resolve this properly,” Gabriel said with a greasy smile, revealing his crooked, yellow teeth making the air uncomfortable.
Angela smiled faintly. “Alright, I’ll wait right here. Let’s see how Mr. Foster plans to resolve this.”
Gabriel froze, unsure of how to proceed.
This kind of situation was tricky. After all, it was just a few rumors. Even if they caught the person responsible, the most they could get would be a few words from the police and maybe a few days of detention–nothing substantial.
Moreover, this incident had already damaged the company’s reputation:
“Is that so? Even you, the respected Mr. Foster, have no solution this time?” Angela sneered. Gabriel wasn’t actually at a loss. He just couldn’t be bothered to solve the issue.
“Ah, Ms. Graham, resolving this kind of thing always takes time. Why don’t you head back first? I…”
“No need.” A voice suddenly interrupted him from outside the door.
Angela froze, recognizing the familiar voice instantly.
