Angela reluctantly purchased two stale peaches and three overripe bananas before making her way to the hospital.
Trevor was already awake, lying in bed with an IV drip connected to him. His face was pale, and he appeared weak, as though anyone could easily crush him.
As Angela stepped in with a bag of rotten fruits, Trevor's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Angela, you came? And you even brought me gifts?"
Angela was at a loss for words. Had he hit his head? Could what she'd brought even be considered gifts?
"I bought them at the hospital entrance. If you want it, go ahead and eat it." She tossed the bag in front of him and settled down on the distant couch.
She decided to wait just five more minutes before making her exit. She couldn't stand the thought of spending another second with that bastard. He truly was her greatest nemesis.
"Hey, nurse!" Trevor shouted at the door.
A nurse promptly approached with a warm smile and inquired, "How can I help you?"
"Could you please wash a peach for me?" Trevor requested softly.
"Sure." The nurse opened the bag and discovered just two sad, withered peaches, each no larger than a fist.
"Is this even edible?" She felt heartbroken. She wondered who would give such terrible food to a patient and if it was harmful.
"Let me replace this for you. It's not fresh." The nurse smiled and prepared to discard the plastic bag.
Trevor declined instantly. "No. I'll only eat this. I don't want anything else."
The nurse was left with no option but to wash it. Yet, even after the wash, the peach still appeared utterly sad.
