Angela nodded and was about to say something in response to Finn’s kind offer of help when someone suddenly bumped into her forcefully from behind. It nearly sent her tumbling to the floor on all fours, Luckily, Finn was quick enough to catch and steady her.
But before Angela could fully regain her balance, the brute who had bumped into her grabbed her wrist and murmured, “May I have this dance, miss?”
It was Dexter.
Even with his dark costume and makeup, his commanding presence and those deep–set, piercing eyes gave his identity away immediately.
Why couldn’t he leave her alone?
Finn hadn’t recognized Dexter’s voice. Holding onto Angela’s hand, he looked Dexter in the eye and said, “She’s my partner for this evening, sir.”
Inwardly, Angela cursed like a sailor vehemently. Still, she chose not to acknowledge Dexter. She pretended as if she didn’t recognize him either.
“Oh, really?” Dexter fixed his gaze on her, his eyes flashing dangerously. “So, do you like him?”
Angela wanted to answer but hesitated. There were too many people around, and she dreaded Dexter causing a scene. Even if he didn’t mind embarrassing himself, she did.
Since Angela didn’t speak, Dexter chuckled coldly and gave Finn a smug glance. “It seems like she doesn’t think much of you.”
Finn frowned and seemed to realize something. Nevertheless, he didn’t feel like backing down.
After a slight pause, he turned to Angela and cupped her cheeks gently. Then, he placed at kiss on her forehead.
Angela’s mind went blank.
Around them, people started whispering.
“Wow! They formed a match without even seeing each other’s faces. That must be true love, right?”
“They can see into each other’s souls with just a glance. How rare!”
“But why does this feel like a love triangle? Are the two men fighting over one woman?”
The crowd of swans, both white and black, were openly gossiping, their voices far from discreet. Angela wished the earth would just swallow her up.

“Will that do?” Finn asked, pulling her hand from Dexter’s grip and leading her am
But in the next second, Dexter put a firm hand on Angela’s shoulder and pulled her into his arm. Then, he crushed his lips onto hers in a fierce kiss.
Angela’s head spun at the unexpected kiss. She instinctively put up a fight and resisted him, struggling to push him away. More than anything, she wished she could knee him right where it hurt.
The crowd gasped in shock. This mixer was turning out to be quite the spectacle.
Unable to bear it any longer, Angela bit down on Dexter’s lip. He released her with a pained grunt. Her reflexes took over, and she landed a slap on his cheek squarely.
The sound of the crisp slap echoed across the hall as Dexter’s mask fell off, revealing his strikingly handsome but menacingly furious face.
Everyone stared in stunned silence. They couldn’t believe that the man who had just forcibly kissed a woman after shamelessly interrupting the couple’s dance only to be met with a resounding slap was none other than Dexter.
