Love beyond the mask (Whitney) novel Chapter 1098

"Yvonne?!" Preston was completely stunned!

Despite his deep-seated resentment towards her, seeing Yvonne lying lifeless on the ground made him shiver uncontrollably.

"Wh-who's in my house? Who fired the gun?" he stammered, his voice trembling with fear as he glanced at Whitney, whispering, "There's... someone else in the house!"

Whitney was equally shocked. Snapping back to her senses, she quickly retreated, hiding behind a pillar. She looked at Yvonne... she was gone!

Who could have silenced her?

Whitney's eyes darted towards the second floor where the shot had come from—

She saw a shadow flicker swiftly, disappearing with no further sound.

"Whitney?!" Keegan and the bodyguards arrived at the door, having clearly heard the gunshot too. "What's going on?"

Whitney, hearing her uncle's voice, stood up and cautiously moved out, "Don't come in! It's dangerous here, you need to leave now."

"What happened?" Keegan asked, worry etched on his face.

At that moment, Preston came barreling out of the house.

The living room was filled with the metallic scent of blood, turning everyone's faces ghostly pale.

Whitney, calm amidst the chaos, grabbed the panic-stricken Preston, casting a glance inside the house, "Did you see who fired the shot? Who would want to kill your wife, and you have no idea?"

"How would I know!" Preston shouted, his voice quivering, "I haven't been back to this house in ages, thank God Monica's not home yet... Yvonne didn't have any enemies, as far as I know.

Wait... she mentioned earlier today that someone was following her when she came to see me!

It must have been the person following her... unless, could it really be..."

Preston's voice trailed off as he looked at Whitney, suspicion clouding his eyes.

Whitney had an inkling of what he wasn't saying. But she was certain, if her mother had indeed been here, she wouldn't have sent someone to kill Yvonne.
