Owen Reynolds was a sure bet in her corner.
Roseanne quipped, "The keys have been handed over. This one, I can't give you."
"Why not?"
"Sweetheart, if we hand over the keys, what will we do when it's time to move the espresso machine? Break in?"
Mamie's eyes widened in surprise, "We can move that espresso machine?!"
"Of course. We bought it, didn't we? Why can't we move it?"
"Exactly! If we bought it, we can move it whenever we want."
"That's why we need to keep the key. It'll make things easier when we move."
Scales smirked, "Edna has been trying to push us out just for this machine. Looks like her plans are going to fall through!"
The trio packed up and left, each carrying a cardboard box.
Mamie's was the largest, filled to the brim with snacks.
Chips, nuts, spicy sticks, cookies, milk, sparkling water...
As they passed by the soccer field, a ball flew straight at Mamie. In an attempt to dodge, she dropped her box.
Fortunately, the ball just grazed her arm and flew past.
But the contents of her box scattered everywhere.
Mamie was speechless.
Roseanne and Scales immediately put down their boxes, ready to help her pick everything up.
But someone beat them to it.
Carlson quickly gathered the snacks from the ground, repacked them, and handed the box back to Mamie.
"Th-thank you," Mamie stammered, a bit dazed.
Were they that close?
