Chapter 228 Divorce Damien stopped thinking about these things, and instead patted Clarissa on the face roughly. Still groggy, Clarissa was startled awake and mumbled, “W-What’s wrong?” She opened her eyes, only to see Damien standing before her.
“Why are you here?!”
“Grandpa’s in the hospital. Come with me, now.” Damien looked furious. Clarissa wasn’t too alert after staying up the whole night, but when she heard this, she shot out of bed and changed her clothes without brushing her teeth or washing her face. Grandpa Lawrence had once said there was no cure for cancer. He wanted to retain the last of his dignity, which was why he had refused to go to the hospital. Now that he was hospitalized, he had to be in terrible condition.
“How’s Grandpa?” Clarissa asked. She couldn’t help crying.
“Haven’t you been waiting for this day?” Damien hadn’t smiled at all recently, and he looked grim.
“No, I haven’t! I don’t want anything to happen to Grandpa. I’m not like you,” Clarissa retorted.
She didn’t want to have anything to do with Damien, but she was very fond of Grandpa Lawrence.
Damien turned to look out the window.
Grandpa Lawrence was staying in the best ward the hospital had to offer. When they arrived at the hospital, Clarissa saw Madelynn standing in the corridor. The moment Damien showed up, she linked arms with him.
Clarissa pretended not to see this.
“See, what’s the point of having her at home? Mrs. Faber couldn’t even wake her up,” Madelynn said mockingly.
Damien had probably told her why Clarissa was still staying at home.
This made Clarissa feel even worse. It turned out Mrs. Faber had tried and failed to wake her
up
“Doctor, I want to see Grandpa.” The doctor walked out of the ward, and she grabbed his arm.
“Sir Lawrence wants to see Mrs. Lawrence,” he said. “Okay.” Clarissa bolted into the ward without hesitation. When she saw the skinny, frail, old man lying on the bed, she couldn’t help crying. “Grandpa, Grandpa…” It was only after a long while did Grandpa Lawrence open his eyes.
“Clary…” He was very weak
“Grandpa.” She held his hand.
He smiled. “Clary, I know you and Damien were only putting on a show for me. I…”
He coughed.
