On the other end of the line, Lisa said, “Miss Johnson, are you talking to someone else? If you’re busy, I’ll hang up for now.”
Then, all Clarissa heard was the dial tone.
She stood at the entrance for a while before Chanel came out.
Chanel said to Clarissa, “Let’s go.”
Clarissa nodded and got into Chanel’s car.
On the way back, they didn’t speak at all.
Chanel was thinking about the awe she felt throughout her conversation with Damien. His manliness was like a drop of water in a dry desert. His presence had rejuvenated her.
She knew he truly had feelings for Clarissa. During their meal, he had accommodated her every need in secret.
As long as Clarissa remained at the University of Florin, Damien would show up if anything were to happen.
Clarissa, on the other hand, was thinking about how she had to get Mrs. Faber over here to stop Caleb from doing stupid things. Though it was a romantic thing to date someone in school, she couldn’t help feeling that too much romance made things feel too surreal. She was long past the age of looking forward to a school romance.
“Clarissa, thank you so much,” Chanel said when they were almost at the university.
“Hmm? What for?”
Chanel merely curled her lip mysteriously.
Clarissa received a WhatsApp message when she got home. It was from Caleb.
Caleb: [It’s almost Columbus Day. Do you want to go hiking with me?]
In Caleb’s eyes, Clarissa was only pretending to refuse him. After all, she already had a meal with him and Damien. The reason for her pretense was that she couldn’t get over the fact that he was her student as well as their age gap.
Caleb: [You’re right. My mom will probably really like Clarissa when she sees her in person. I’ll just let her know about the age problem when she asks.]
Damien put his phone down and rubbed his jaw thoughtfully.
Afterwards, Caleb sent a WhatsApp message to Mrs. Faber.
Caleb: [Mom, I led our university’s basketball team to victory recently. Why didn’t you come to see me?]
Mrs. Faber constantly thought about Caleb, and she wanted to see him. When she saw his message, she was surprised. Had he turned a new leaf? Was he actually asking her to go to his university?
Both Damien and Neil weren’t at Hill Villa, which meant she didn’t have much to do. However, she still needed to ask Damien for some time off.
Mrs. Faber: [Mr. Lawrence, my son wants me to visit him. Can I have a few days off? And since Neil’s at Florin as well, I can help watch over him so you can focus on work.]
Damien: [Sure. You can come tomorrow.]
