The next day, Mrs. Faber took a bus to Florin. Her first stop was at Grandpa Lawrence’s house.

Neil was overjoyed to see her.

He even said to Damien, “Dad, are we going to stay in Florin from now on?”

“It depends.” Damien was lounging on the sofa.

He appraised Mrs. Faber. She was dressed up nicely, and her eyes crinkled as she smiled brightly.

“Mr. Lawrence, do you think Caleb asked me to come so he could introduce his girlfriend to me? I wonder why he’s so proactive now.” Mrs. Faber was so excited that she was trembling.

“Are you supposed to meet them for dinner? It’s getting late. You should hurry.” Damien glanced at his watch.

He had long since known that this day would be here, and that Caleb and Clarissa’s relationship would come to naught. That was why he managed to suppress his anger all this time.

“Yes, yes.” Mrs. Faber calmed herself down and left.

Caleb chose a place nearby the university.

He was a student, and the cost of eating here was closest to what he could afford.

“Clarissa, my mother used to be an editor at a newspaper. After she retired early, she started working for Mr. Lawrence. You see, Mr. Lawrence is Damien Lawrence. You’ve met him before.”

Clarissa nodded as she sipped at her tea. She couldn’t help feeling a little nervous at the prospect of seeing someone from her past.

Mrs. Faber walked into the restaurant. When she saw Clarissa, she didn’t dare to say anything. She merely stood there, trying to figure out what was going on.

Her heart sank at the goofy smile on Caleb’s face.

“Long time no see, Mrs. Faber.” Clarissa stood up.
