Chapter 189
They were both in Greenmeadow, and Jungler was an online celebrity of sorts, so Cordelia had no concerns about potential deceit. As for the meeting place, she hadn’t chosen one.
When Jungler realized she hadn’t specified a location, he sent over an address for the Sapphire Sojourn Hotel, with a quick message, “Is this okay?”
Cordelia shot back a reply, “Sure.”
As long as it was in Greenmeadow, she feared nothing.
Merry, noticing her nonchalance, sneakily glanced at the hotel name on the messaging app. The Sapphire Sojourn Hotel was currently the most opulent five–star establishment in Greenmeadow. She immediately sent a private message to Yates, “Yates, you familiar with the Sapphire Sojourn Hotel?”
Yates replied, “Yeah, it’s my family’s.”
Merry was stunned for a second.
Yates, “What’s up?”
וויו
Merry cleared her throat, “Step outside for a sec, I’ll fill you in face to face. It’s a bit of a pickle.”
After agreeing to meet at the stairwell, Merry explained everything to Yates, concluding with, “Lia’s meeting them there tonight. Let’s tag along in case things get rough. I can b back you up!”
Yates nodded, “Sounds good.”
At lunch, Cordelia looked at Everard and suddenly inquired, “Do you play video games?”
Everard paused for a beat, “A bit. Which one?”
“POT.”
Leaning his head on his hand, Everard asked again, “Mobile or PC version?”
Cordelia was taken aback, “What’s PC version?”
“That would be for the computer.”
“Oh.” She had an ‘aha‘ moment. “Didn’t know this game had a PC version.”
Everard was speechless.
“So you play the mobile one?”
Everard couldn’t help but smile, “I’m good with the PC version; the mobile should be similar.”
Nodding, Cordelia then asked, “You busy tonight?”
Everard’s deep eyes held a flirtatious glint, “Why, is this a date?”
Cordelia was at a loss for words. His teasing made her recall their pool encounter, heating her cheeks, “No, don’t get the wrong idea.”
“Okay, Everard said, “I’m always available for you.”
After a pause, she added, “Then you’ll accompany me tonight.”
Having been invited to dinner by Sweetheart and Jungler, she couldn’t go alone and appear inferior

“Sure But what’s this got to do with gaming?” he asked.
Cordelia laid out the situation and ended with, “Almost forgot, my rank in the game was thanks to you, so you
must have some skills.”
Everard was once again speechless.
Despite his changing expressions, she reassured him, “No worries if you’re not great, just make up the numbers.”
She figured the real game might need to be settled in the virtual world, they might be up for a four–person showdown tonight. With her team one member short, Everard could fill in.
Everard chuckled softly.
After her spiel, she suddenly remembered, “Right, you got an account?”
Everard replied, “For this game, the PC and mobile versions account works on mobile,
e connected. My Pr so I’m all set.”
“Great.”
Everard held back a smile, thinking of Cordelia teasing him about being good for nothing but love. Last time. at the pool, he’d wanted to impress her with his skills, and now, here was another chance–misunderstood again. He couldn’t resist saying. “I’m actually pretty decent at games.”
Hearing this, Cordelia glanced at him, “No pressure, really. I’ve heard it’s a young person’s game. I understand if you’re not as quick as the younger crowd.”
Everard was totally at a loss for words.
Seeing his baffled expression, she wondered if she’d hurt his feelings. Reluctantly parting with a piece of her treasured beef, she placed it in his plate, coaxing, “Eat up.”
That should cheer him up, right? Cordelia thought.
“Was she comforting me now, starting to care about my feelings?” With that thought, he ate the beef and tasted a hint of sweetness.
Dating her meant finding sugar amidst the shards of glass!
After the meal, they went their separate ways.
Later, in the Midnight Scent, Everard found Skyler rifling through snacks. Unfazed by his entrance, Skyler cheerily remarked, “Boss, you move so silently, gave me a fright.”
Everard glared at him.
As Skyler spoke, he pocketed some snacks and, seeing Everard’s gaze, chuckled, “You don’t sell or eat these; they’ll just expire. Might as well let me have them!”
He then opened a bag of chips, crunching away, and shared, “I’ve checked out the orphanage Lia grew up in. Special place. Someone’s been funding it regularly since she was dropped off eighteen years ago. They never lacked for anything, even had fancy musical instruments. The place may look rundown, but inside, it’s like a fancy sanatorium with a pool, a gym… No wonder they didn’t kick Lia out even at eighteen. The orphanage
wasn’t short on cash!”
