"It's just a car I borrowed from a friend. Come on, get in, and I'll take you to the tour group," I said, patting the seat. Sylvia hesitantly got in, looking a bit tense.
The morning rush hour had already ended, and there was no traffic. We reached the meeting point of the tour group quite quickly.
The staff loaded Sylvia's luggage onto the bus and began ushering the rest of the group to prepare for departure.
I looked at Sylvia, feeling a pang of reluctance. Ever since she arrived at the train station, the number of times we met were few and short.
I patted her hair and said, "Take care of yourself while you're out there. If you run into any trouble, don't hesitate to call me."
I pulled out a bank card I had prepared earlier from my bag. Since my original card was left in Carzonia and I couldn't return there, I had to go to the bank with my ID and get a replacement.
"There's a few thousand dollars on this card. I've saved it in the past few months. The PIN is my birthday."
"If you see something you like on the trip, just buy it. Don't be frugal. This money is for you. I'm sorry I can't go on this trip with you, but I promise I'll make it up to you when I get the chance."
I had considered setting up a couple account for Sylvia, but she declined, so I dropped the idea.
Sylvia bit her lip as she looked at the card before taking it from my hand, her eyes glistening with tears.
"I know, Hudson. I'll take care of myself. Thank you for the card. And, I'm an adult, not a child. I can handle things on my own."
I watched Sylvia get on the bus, and then watched as the tour group drove away.
