I was afraid. I was worried that I really had drugged Julianne and would be found guilty. I was also fearful of disappointing Mr. Holland once again.

I was so, so afraid.

Mr. Holland seemed to have sensed my fear. He gently patted my shoulder, then said, “Don’t be afraid, Emilia. I’ve called in some favors for you! I won’t let you be wrongfully accused. You’ll be out of here in no time!”

His comforting words merely intensified my fears. “But, Mr. Holland, what if… what if I really did do it?”

“Impossible!” he instantly replied. “I’ve never met anyone who was a better person than you! There’s no way you could have done it, so don’t worry!”

A lot of time had passed since I had lost my memory. Even so, I had never once been worried. In fact, I was even glad it had happened as I didn’t remember that scumbag, Irvin. Yet now, I was panicking because I was unable to recall anything.

“But, Mr. Holland, it really was me in the video. And I can’t recall what I was doing at the time, no matter how hard I try. I–I’m scared that-”

“It doesn’t matter whether or not you can remember,” he interjected. “It also doesn’t matter if it really was you in the video. I believe you could never have done such a thing! So you need to believe in yourself too!”

I could only stare at him. I didn’t even believe in myself. Yet, he did.

He still firmly believed in me despite not knowing exactly what happened. His belief in me was unconditional and resolute.

I couldn’t hold back any longer. I threw myself into his arms and loudly sobbed.

I might not have shown it, but I was absolutely terrified. I was scared that I was guilty of what I was being accused of. I was terrified that I would never be free again.

“Don’t cry, my dear,” Mr. Holland said, trying to comfort me. “I’m here. I’ve also called in some very capable people to help you! You’ll be fine!”

I entered the meeting room. Sitting down, I was stunned when I saw the people Mr. Holland had brought with him..

And it wasn’t just me, even the officers were shocked! What was more, the station chief—who had taken time off today—had even canceled it and rushed over.

“That’s right!” One of the big shots, Harvey Spencer, chimed in. “Fret not, young lady. Just take your time to explain the situation. We’ve never lost a case, and there’s no case we haven’t been able to solve!”
