So no, I didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty. Not for one second did I worry that refusing to sign would cost him his life. I had been in far worse shape than him, and I survived. Of course, he would too.

And I was right. He was saved in no time. I knew because Landon stormed in to yell at me.

At the time, I was enjoying the chicken noodle soup Noah had prepared for me. He had really grown up. He knew exactly what I liked without needing to ask.

He was furious, completely unable to understand how I could be so cruel.

Unlike Irvin’s usual crowd of drinking buddies, London was different. He was one of the few who truly cared about him. And because he cared, seeing me so indifferent–so utterly cold–blooded–nearly sent him over the edge.

I lifted my gaze to him, calm and unbothered as I said, “Oh? Attempted murder? Then tell me, Landon. When I was in the emergency room, fighting for my life, and the hospital called Irvin to sign the consent forms for my surgery, what did he say? And what did you say?”

I added, “If what I did was a crime, then shouldn’t you two be the first ones to get arrested?”

His mouth opened, but no words came out. For once, he was speechless.
