Julienne seemed genuinely worried about losing Irvin. Her pleas sounded convincing, and she had even gotten on *her knees.
Mom and Jeremy were completely unaware of Irvin’s condition. They had been caring for Julianne ever since they heard what had happened to her. And once she started to feel better, they immediately came after me.
Because of that, they were just now learning that Irvin had gotten injured trying to save me. His injuries weren’t severe, but apparently, he was growing weaker because he had lost the will to live. So, when they heard Julianne say he might die, they were shell–shocked.
Their heads snapped toward me. It was obvious they wanted me to pay Irvin a visit.
I ignored them.
Why should I? I wasn’t a doctor.
None of them thought I would be so heartless toward him. used to love him so much that I would wish to take on his pain despite my aversion toward it. It didn’t matter how severely injured he was, I would gladly take it on for him.
Yet now, I was refusing to go see him, even when he was close to death.
“Please don’t be like this, Millie. I’m begging you, please visit Irvin!” Julianne pleaded, shuffling forward on her knees.
It was such a pitiful sight. She seemed genuinely concerned for Irvin, but I scoffed at her.
“Why should I? Aren’t you the one he loves most?” I asked sardonically.
Julianne clenched her fists tightly again upon hearing this. She felt that I was cruelly humiliating her on purpose. She wanted to stand up and shout at me.
Why would she need to grovel before me if she truly was the one Irvin loved the most? Why would she even need to stoop so low?
Despite declaring that Irvin loved her numerous times, she knew it wasn’t true. Irvin never had any romantic feelings toward her.
Julianne had destroyed any chance of a romantic relationship between them when she had gotten together with Phillip. She had been lying to me and herself all this time. She had also been fooling herself into thinking Irvin might end up with her if she got rid of me.
Despite how angry she was, she didn’t stand up and yell at me. Instead, she started crying as she begged again, “I know a lot has happened in the past. But regardless, Irvin is in a coma now because he tried to save you. So please, go see him and encourage him to live!”
Julianne was sincerely terrified that Irvin might die. She couldn’t bear to lose him when he was her biggest pillar of support.
Mom, clearly just as worried, turned toward me. “This is a matter of life and death, Millicent. And it’s livin’s life we’re talking about! You must see him!” she demanded.
Jeremy also tried to persuade me, but I remained unmoved
Back then, my life had been left up to fate. So, Irvin’s life shall be left in fate’s hands too.
