Chapter 194

Julianne stood up and said, I wouldn’t have to threaten you like this if you weren’t being so coldhearted and unfeeling.

Those words were probably to maintain her image as an innocent and angelic girl in front of Henry, Mom, and Jeremy. Personally, I felt it was completely unnecessary.

Initially, they were dumbfounded to hear that Julianne would be inheriting Irvin’s new company should he die. But once they overcame their shock, their goal had clearly shifted.

When I had first gotten together with Irvin, Mom and Henry were against our relationship. They disliked Irvin then because he had just been kicked out of his home.

At the time, Phillip had wanted one of his illegitimate children to succeed him and take over Sawyer Corporation. Having lost his position as a potential heir, Irvin was seen as nothing in the eyes of others.

On top of that, Irvin had a rocky adolescence. He was a spoiled child and had lived a pampered life, which made him flamboyant, arrogant, and reckless. Plus, his priority was having fun, and he enjoyed playing dangerous and thrilling sports.

When he was still the heir of the Sawyer family, these traits were seen as advantageous, signs of a fearless leader. But once he lost that position, they became major character flaws instead.

Not only that, but he had fallen into depression and was spending a lot of time binging on alcohol. After all, he had just lost his mother and had been unexpectedly kicked out of his home by Phillip.

To everyone else, he had fallen into a pit and was stuck.

Although Mom and Henry weren’t fond of me, they still wanted me to marry into a family better than ours. That way, the Quills could rise in society by riding on the coattails of their inlaws. Naturally, they disliked Irvin in the beginning.

Mom and Henry had even threatened to disown me. This was because I had wanted to sell off the company I had inherited from my aunt to support Irvin’s startup.

So how did they end up liking Irvin so much? It was because he became rich, of course!

Irvin’s startup had become successful. And once it did, he quickly became an influential figure. Everyone’s attitude toward him also changed drastically overnight, especially Mom and Henry’s.

They went from looking down on him to affectionately referring to him as their soninlaw. Irvin’s relationship with them also grew closer than mine. They even treated him as though he were godsent.

So, when they first heard about Irvin’s condition, their concern was genuine. But when they found out that Julianne would inherit his new company if he died, their second thought was that it wouldn’t be all that bad.

It was natural to think so, given how wealthy Irvin was. He might have helped the Quills frequently because of familial ties, but at the end of the day, the money still came from him. Thus, they had to ensure they remained on good terms with him.

However, it would be a different story if his massive company were to end up in Julianne’s hands. She ncunning, but she didn’t have good business sense. She was bound to need help eventually. And when the time came, they would be able to step in under the guise of helping her as family.

Anyone would be swayed in the face of such immense wealth. Their immediate thought would be how greatly they
