Irvin’s expression tensed, and he immediately grabbed me and started running toward the main deck.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t see clearly and stepped on a nail as we ran. The pain instantly paralyzed me. Seeing this, Irvin quickly hoisted me into his arms and continued running.
People started to surround us from all directions. Irvin’s men swiftly cut the power on the ship, plunging it into darkness. However, our opponents were well–prepared because the lights soon came back on.
We were trapped!
As I watched Irvin’s men fall one by one, I urged him to put me down.
“They won’t kill me because they need my expertise, but that isn’t the same for you. You have to run!” I cried.
With his skills, Irvin wouldn’t have a problem escaping if he left me behind.
“No! he firmly replied.
Instead of releasing me, he tightened his hold and sprinted toward the main deck.
I was about to struggle against him when he spoke again.
“These people belong to the largest criminal organization in the world. They’ve kidnapped many scientists, none of whom have been rescued. So if they manage to take you…
I would never get out.
Even so, I didn’t want to drag Irvin into this and put his life in danger. Thus, I kept trying to convince him to let me go. However, he refused to no matter what I said. I also didn’t dare to struggle too much as I was worried I would slow him down.
Irvin ran with all his might while carrying me, and we finally reached the deck. Just when we were one step away from jumping into the sea, a gunshot suddenly rang out.
I heard Irvin release a muffled grunt. Then, he started swaying on his feet and nearly lost his balance.
My mind was buzzing from the sound. Instinctively, I reached around and touched his back. Feeling blood, I began panicking when I realized it was the area over his heart. Because of this, I started crying uncontrollably.
“Irvin…” I called.
Irvin was struggling to stay on his feet. Yet, he still forced himself to lift me onto the deck’s railing.
With a smile, he said, “Sorry, Emi, it looks like I won’t make it to the day you regain your memories. When we got married, I promised to love you for a lifetime. Yet, I’ve done so many things that hurt you, and I’m sorry.
“I’m truly sorry, Emi. Forget about me and continue with your life–be happy and live well from now on.”
Irvin was about to die, so he could finally let me go now and allow me to be happy.
“I love you, babe,” he added with finality.
Then, while still smiling, he pushed me overboard. His final gaze was filled with reluctance, affection, guilt, and farewell.
As I looked into his eyes and heard his final words, I felt as though something had exploded in my mind. Then, in the next moment, I was rapidly plunging toward the sea.
