Irvin thought this wasn’t all bad. Now that he was about to die, he could finally allow me to be happy and would “never make me suffer again.
He looked at the men charging toward him. With no strength left to run, he slumped against the railing and slid to the floor.
Irvin’s smile became rueful as he pulled a remote out of his pocket.
He had his men install bombs all over the cruise ship. Initially, he had planned on detonating them after we had successfully escaped so they couldn’t chase after us.
He had also had two remotes made, just in case. One was with Quinton, who would immediately detonate the bombs once they had escaped. Irvin had kept the other as a backup should the rescue mission fail.
Now, it was time to put his backup into play. He would do one last thing for me, ensuring I would escape safely, once and for all.
Someone grabbed me as soon as I fell into the water and swam with me in tow toward a speedboat.
My mind was still in disarray when I realized the person was Quinton. Pushing all thoughts aside, I hurriedly said, “Don’t worry about me–go save Irvin! He’s been shot!”
However, Quiton ignored me. Instead, he swiftly pulled me onto the boat and then gave orders to depart immediately.
Upon hearing this, I anxiously grabbed him and exclaimed, ‘Irvin is still on the ship!”
Quinton turned back to me after he was done issuing orders to leave. His eyes were bloodshot.
“It’s too late. Irvin has planted many bombs aboard the cruise ship. Now that we’ve been discovered, he’s going to trigger them. That way, everyone else could escape safely,” he explained.
His words struck me like a lightning bolt. My mind went blank. Before I could gather myself, I heard a deafening explosion.
We had already put some distance between us and the ship. Despite this, the blast was so massive that it shook the speedboat, nearly capsizing it. I had been thrown to the floor too.
Lifting my head, I saw the cruise ship engulfed in flames. It had been fine moments before, but now, it looked like a massive fireball. Then, a second wave of explosions followed, instantly splitting the large ship in half.
As each successive blast blew the ship apart, my mind shattered too. Memories of my past with Irvin surged through the cracks. They flooded my brain faster than I could process them.
I remembered now.
Every single thing from my past with Irvin–I remembered them all.
I remembered how much I loved him and how deeply we loved each other. I also remembered how much Irvin loved me and how good he was to me. I could recall all the times he had risked his life for me.
And most of all, I remembered why I loved him so much.
Despite all the pain and hurt he had caused me, I couldn’t let him go. In that instance, I couldn’t tell if I was my current or past self. All I knew was I felt a pain in my chest as I watched the ship blow up. It was to the point

where I felt as though my chest was being ripped apart.
Irvin…” I called out in agony.
